Chances at University of Florida (OOS/legacy)

Here are my stats. I would probably only go if I got a ROTC scholarship, but i was just wondering if I would get any need based aid. Also are there any colleges in Florida that would give me a good amount of aid, like USF or even a private college like U of Miami? I just kinda want to go to college in Florida.

-NC resident

-3.43 unweighted GPA ( Ouch! bad sophomore year, made all but 2 A's my freshman and junior year
-28 ACT (took SAT and did way worse on it, but plan to take both again this fall)
-varsity and captain of Track and Cross country at my high school
-part time job since sophomore year

-Foreign Exchange student for half a month in europe
-Parents have some college but never received traditional 4 year degrees (does this make a difference?)
-Grandma went to U of Florida which grants me legacy status

bump bump bump

My understanding is that UF is permitted by state law a maximum of 3% OOS for undergaduate admissions. For 2011 the actual number was closer to 1.5% which would equate to under 100. Therefore OOS is extremely selective–not sure what the #'s are for other Florida state schools. I do not believe your grandmother attending UF would have an impact although first generation should–if your parents did not receive 4 year degrees I believe you would still qualify. You may have a higher probability at UM since a much higher % is OOS since they no restricitions. Your weighted GPA is important and take practice ACT tests–you can find them for free on the net, to try and increase ACT score. Good Luck!

You are first generation…I am from FL, and have seen many of my classmates get into UF with both lower and higher scores than yours. So basically, their admissions are really random! I think you have a great shot though. Good EC’s, decent grades and ACT. Your scores should be raised a bit just to be on the safe side, though. Do you have a weighted GPA?
Good luck btw!!
