Hello, I am a junior in high school looking into the nursing program at University of Pittsburgh. I have an SAT score of 2070 (CR: 620, M: 740, W: 710), an unweighted GPA of 4.0, and a weighted GPA of 6.38 (out of 7.0 scale). As of now, I’m in the top 10% of my class.
I’ve taken a mix of A and H level classes, with 1 AP, throughout my three years in high school. My school does not offer too many AP classes; however, I do plan on taking 2 APs senior year. Also, my school is rated as one of the top 100 schools in the country, which may show you how difficult even our A-level classes are.
For my extracurriculars, I’ve taken part in FCA and FCS. I volunteer as a tutor at a middle school every week. Also, I am the keyboardist of my Praise and Worship team at my church, a choir member, a Sunday school volunteer, and have served as a Vacation Bible School teacher for 2 years. Over the summer, I intend to do ESL tutoring, volunteer for 60 hours at a hospital, and get inducted into my school’s Spanish Honor Society.
I know UPitt’s Nursing Program is very competitive and I’m doubting whether I would be able to get in. Could anyone please tell me what they think my chances are to get accepted? I would greatly appreciate any insight you could give me!!!
Also, other schools I’m looking at are Penn State, University of Massachusetts - Boston, University of Connecticut, and Liberty University. (NYU seems really great too, but I’m doubtful I would get accepted)
My daughter got into Pitt Nursing with a 4.1 GPA and 34 ACT score. You sound like you are on the right path. Take classes that are geared for nursing in HS - STATS, Biology, Anatomy
I’ve taken Biology already and plan on taking Stat AP and Human Anatomy H senior year. Thanks for your response!
Chegirl: With a decent test score and GPA you can get merit money as well plus a potential guaranteed graduate school opportunity and admission into honors program. Keep up the hard work - sounds like you are focused! Good Luck!
