Hello,
Currently I am a junior enrolled in a public high school from southern PA. Although some people might consider me questioning my eligibility to get into the University of Pittsburg's School of Nursing, I want to know some opinions on what I should do to better my chances of acceptance next year.

My weighted GPA is a 4.2
My unweighted GPA is a 3.8

My first SAT score (I do intend to take them again to achieve the minimum 1300 CR and Math) was a 1700/2400.
My first ACT score was a 28.

I am only involved in one AP course this year, mostly because there is a small amount offered, and most AP courses are offered to seniors.
I have been and am involved in:
Cheerleading
SADD
Best Buds (works with integrating students with autism into high school)
Link Crew (integrates incoming freshman into high school)
Volunteer work at local blood drives and soup kitchens
NHS
Distinguished Honor Roll
French Club
Shadowing at two local hospitals
Volunteer work at a local hospital

I am trying my hardest to get my SAT and ACT scores up to at least a 1900 and a 30. Please, any advice you have for me to better my chances of being accepted next year would be greatly appreciated!!

I would try to work on your ACT score. Your ACT is significantly better than your SAT. Just work on getting your ACT score up and you should be fine! Also do something over the summer (intern, counselor, etc.) to give your resume an edge.

Your ACT and SAT are too low, point blank period. Without elevating that score to at least a 31 or your SAT to a 2100, you have a snowball’s chance in Hell.
Your ECs are so… bleh. There’s nothing that even begins to stand out about you in that category, and without a standout EC, I really wouldn’t worry about applying. Honestly, half the people in my HS have more distinguished ECs. Most of yours are intramural which makes for a terrible application. To get into Penn nursing, you’re going to need to be the President of something (and do something big as President) or something fairly major in your region, or better, your state.
Have a nice day! :)

FIRST, the next time you give someone advice on college apps , make sure you get the college right! ITS PITT NOT PENN.
and SECOND, READ what I write. I did say that I was working on getting my SAT and ACT scores up.

And to thebestever, maybe you should learn how to spell. The name of the school is PITT. Do you really have anything better to do than to post disgustingly rude comments on people’s threads trying to better their futures on a website that is specifically designed for answering questions about higher level institutions? Go get a life.

Your GPA is fine, keep working on getting your SAT/ACT up, especially your math school (it will probably be treated as more important then your CR score since it is a medical program). The biggest issue I see is that you don’t have a ton of medical related ECs (though if you have a lot of hours in the medical ECs you do have ignore what I just said). With the assumption that your scores improve you will be a qualified applicant. That being said to my knowledge it is a competitive program (though my knowledge of the program is somewhat limited) which means you could be completely qualified and still be rejected. Find some safeties and you should be fine.

Also completely off topic…but honor roll is not an EC, nor should it be listed under awards. It is implied by your GPA.
