If my grades this semester were stellar, I'd have the profs send in a note, but I don't think they are. Besides, it would be a ton of trouble anyway at this point to ask the profs to send in a signed note stating that my grades are blah, blah, blah. I'm just happy I got them to write recs for me in the short amount of time (1 week) that I gave them.

for all who applied online, do your status reports show that all of your transcripts have been recieved?

mine only shows my college, but not the 2 high schools i attended. i'm a little worried. i'll probably call at the begining of april once they're finished w/ freshman

i called earlier this morning, they said maybe they're just behind in processing them and to call again in a week, but i'm still worried now--wondering if all of my schools didn't get transcripts.

did you have good relationships with your old schools/councelors? mine were not great to say the least (the relationships, not the schools/councelors themselves)

I had a pretty good relationship with mine, but don't worry about that. You should call them right away and have them send your transcripts. I wouldn't wait any longer.

I would probably check with the other schools before calling UVA. UVA took a couple weeks before mine were on file. Now if none of the schools have a certain transcript.. then I'd start to worry a little more and then possibly have the transcripts sent out again.

BTW, Katt, if you got around to looking over my essays, do you understand why my first two were as long as they were? Hopefully it calmed whatever fears you had about the the length of your responses.

Yep....drove 3 hours...I think he knew....He said he'd make a note that I'd come to talk with him.

And efs424...call your highschools, check w/ the counselers, and see if they sent out your trans...if they haven't get em in a sealed envelope and send them express....if they have....call the University immediately...don't wait....that could affect your decision dramatically....punctuality is a necessity

Well it serves as like and "extra" to anyone who takes their own time to go visit him personally and ask information...like it gives a lil bit of credit...obviously not a determning factor of whether I get in or not, but it shows that I have pure interest and really want to get in, and that I'm actually making an effort to learn, etc.

I'm wondering what did you need to talk to him about that couldn't happen over the phone. What questions required a meeting??

It just sounds like you're saying you drove three hours (from your college, I assume) to increase your chances and effectually take up his workday. I think anyone here would've driven for 3 hrs if that's what it took to have our applications especially marked.

I just really want to go to the University of Virginia--it's true, and probably would've driven 3 hrs to demostrate that, if I didn't go to school 45 min from Charlottesville. I just wasn't aware that obsequiousness had a postitive effect on admissions decisions these days.

i got my acceptance letter from Virginia Tech today. I am still waiting for North Carolina State and UVa though. Waiting for UVa is absolutly a killer.

It doesn't matter how much I drove...I didn't mention an exact number when I talked to him...But it does help out to let them know that you're interested...you could go talk to him too and it'd probably serve the same advantage...all it shows is that you're enthusiastic...it's no more an advantage for me than it is for someone who lives in C-ville...I also had other things to attend to...that wasn't my sole reason to go down there...3 hours for 30 minutes?

It took maybe half an hour out of his work day and it wasn't during the processing of transfer apps...Need I mention i specified him when would be convenient for him and I made sure it wasn't any trouble for him first

It doesn't buy an admission by any means...it didn't "mark my application" it just helps a little bit in letting them know that you're a dedicated applicant

Why talk on the phone when you can meet him personally and let him know the kind of person you are...Ppl like being able to put a face on the ppl they're talking to...I'd rather go talk to him personally than bore him with a phone call. Plus i took down my official transcripts for him to look at, for him to give me an idea of how the transfer process went, give me an idea to the best of his knowledge at the time what my chances were.

I'm not depending on my visit to the University to get me in...need i remind you i have atleast half decent stats and basically i'm depending on my college GPA.

The last sentence wasn't the only one that was rude...chill....don't be so sensitive...if you're better than me then hell, you're gonna get in over me...don't base your ideas and your chances of getting in over mine on petty little things

What I said was definitely unnecessary and uncalled for--my sincere apologies. That was dumb. I've just been way too on edge about the waiting, but that's no excuse.
TO be honest, from what I remember, you seem like a really strong applicant. I think you'll do well. Hopefully we'll be seeing eachother on Grounds next year.
Best Regards

I thought about visiting during Spring Break, but didn't. I live pretty far (further than 3 hours) and had some things I needed to accomplish. Dean Roberts is very helpful though. Whenever I've had a question about something, I e-mail him and he responds so quickly.

Speaking of such. One of my recommenders didn't get the online recommendation request that I had sent to him. And I had already submitted my app. by the time I found this out. He sent out a hard copy... and I faxed a hard copy that he had given me. Then I sent an e-mail about the fax requesting that it not be count if they have any doubt because I don't want to be accused of falsifying a recommendation. Now, I would never falsify a recommendation. I just wanted this sent out since this guy had me in his program for 6 years. He did have two typos on it, which made it seem like they might think that I just threw it together. I don't know if they ever received the hard copy since they don't tell you what letters they've received since they aren't required for transfers. Do you guys think this could cause problems for me?
