Chances at University of Washington? (NERVOUS)

Hi, I really want to get into the University of Washington but information on admissions is scarce online, so I was wondering if anybody with a little knowledge on the process could tell me my chances. I am looking to do computer sciences. Thanks.

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.33 (Weighted is 3.9-4.0)
SAT Score: 1410
ACT Score: 32
AP Classes: European History, Physics 1, AP Calc AB (just the test), American History, Psychology, AP Lang, AP Literature, AP Government, AP Economics, Statistics, Computer Science A
IB: Math SL 1, Business Management
Senior Year Course Load: AP Government, AP Economics, AP Literature, IB Business, TA, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science A
Major Awards: None
Extracurriculars: 6-7 years of Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout), 4 years of FIRST Robotics, developed many apps for many platforms
Leadership:Boy Scout Senior Patrol Leader

Job/ Work Experience: None
In-State?: No
Ethnicity: Asian-Indian
Gender: Male

Also got mostly 4-5 on all my AP exams and a 6/7 on the IB Math exam.

I think your unweighted is kinda low, but your weighted seems on track. Extracurriculars are good, show your passion for comp sci. I think you will probably get in. I don’t think its too hard to get in for comp sci with your apps, but I’m fairly sure you have to apply to the comp sci department after two years and that’s the hard part.

I actually recalculated it and my unweighted is 3.45 but yeah still a bit low, also I am just worried about general admission right now xD

It is unlikely that you will get direct admission to the CSE major. So if you do get in, you will have to compete for admission to the CSE major later.

Very good SAT and ACT (in the top half to top quarter of OOS students), but Washington’s Common Data Set reports the unweighted GPA of enrolled freshmen in 2015 as follows:

3.75 to 4.00: 64.24%
3.50 to 3.74: 27.16%
3.25 to 3.49: 6.52%
3.00 to 3.24: 1.52%
Under 3.00: 0.56%

It is probably a high match/low reach, as GPA is more important than test scores according to the Common Data Set. However, the rigor of your class schedule (and great ECs) might just tip the scale in your favor in a holistic review of your application.

Good luck!

If I did not get in as a freshman, would it be worth going to Seattle University and trying to transfer after two years?

You know you could go to Seattle U for all four years - they have computer science.

If you are a pre-engineering admit, I would go to UW and try to get into CSE major after two years from there. That gives you a chance to meet and impress the professors who are actually making the decisions. However, you will need a backup plan if you do not get into the major. They have more slots than they used to, but it is still competitive.

Well I’m going for an eventual PhD in computer science, so I may go somewhere completely different than either school for graduate school (hoping to do well enough to go to a graduate program at a higher end school). By the way, thanks all for the responses I appreciate it!
