Chances at UT Austin and Florida

Well I already got into the University of Georgia and a couple of Canadian schools but I was curious about my chances at UT Austin and Florida. I'm in a somewhat unique situation as I moved to Canada from Texas about 5 years ago so I am applying as a Texas Resident rather than as an International Student.

SAT: 1260 (640 verbal, 620 math, 660 writing)
GPA: 3.7 unweighted

EC's:

JV Football, Rugby, Basketball and Soccer (I blew out my knee playing rugby at the end of 10th grade so I couldn't play anymore school sports in 11th and 12th)
Southern Ontario Model United Nations
Senior Debate Team
Student Council
Student Athletic Council
Member of the "Relay for Life" Cancer fundraising committee
Symphonic Band
Hospital Volunteer
Assistant Coached a soccer team
Teacher's helper at a Sunday School
Volunteered for the Salvation Army (I'm the guy at the mall who had to ring the bell for hours...yay)

Alright that's about all I can think of right now. Any feedback would be appreciated, I'm really not sure where I stand at all. Thanks a lot.

I know students from in state (Florida) with higher GPA's and test scores that were rejected from UF. Many of them that were accepted, had over 4.0 W GPA's and 1300-1400 test scores and weren't accepted for Fall. The only way they can go is if they do Summer term.

I wouldn't say you have no chance what so ever, you took the step to apply and for that you have a chance. If it's that rough for in-state students, I can only imagine that it's worse for out-of-state.

If you're in the top 10% of your class, you're automatically in at Texas. Otherwise, slight reach. Florida = out-of-state reach.

I'm applying from Canada but because I'm an American citizen and we still own a house in Houston (which my grandmother lives in) I was granted Texas residency. I would really love to go to Texas as it has been my dream school since I was 6 years old but I realize how competitive it is and I'm not to keen on my chances. Does anyone happen to know about the academics at the University of Georgia? Yes I realize that there is a Georgia forum but I'd prefer a non-biased view. Perhaps I might just be better off staying in Canada a year and giving the states another go next year. I applied to University of Toronto, Mcmaster University (accepted), Guelph University (accepted), Queens University and Western Ontario. I love Canada but it's just too damn cold. I'm not sure whether paying the out of state tuition for Georgia would be a good value or not for me.

AH i love florida. its the most perfect school in the world, in my opinion!
Anyways, the interesting thing about UF is that A-'s, A's, and A+'s are all counted as 4.0's, B-'s, B's, and B+'s are all counted as 3.0's (admissions recalculates your GPA)..
At my high school, i get mostlyA-'s, but have never gotten a grade below that, so my hs UW GPA is a 3.85ish (A-'s at my school are 3.7's).
HOWEVER, when I apply to UF my unweighted gpa will be a 4.0 since A-'s are counted the same as A's

My point is, have you gotten mostly grades in the A range? Or a mix of A's and B's? Because that will have a significant impact on whether you are admitted or not... when they recalculate your GPA.

People underestimate how competitive UF admissions are. My friend applied with a 3.9 unweighted and a 1350 (old) SAT score. Her essays and EC's were stellar. She was rejected.

I don't believe the 10% rule applies if you don't attend HS in Texas (could be wrong). Unless your family is US military, I don't know how you got 'granted' residence, unless you claimed to live with your grandmother. That's tough if you didn't graduate in Houston.

the thing about UT Austin... I don't know if the top 10% thing will apply to you (which surely makes a difference) UT Ausitn will take, i beleive, their favorite 75% of their top 10% applicants, and promise the others spots at other UT schools, because they are getting overcrowded...
nonetheless, if you are a texas resident and in top 10% you are likely a shoo-in ... i would think...

i got accepted to florida, go figure. thanks for the input guys. now i'm waiting on texas.
