Great essays and great recs, as far as I know.

thanks in advance

lol animal rights...

On topic: You have an excellent chance at UT. Don't sweat it...

I think you'll get in.

My involvement in animal rights consisted of participating in their ultimate frisbee tournament a few times. Anyway, thanks for the replies. Anyone else?

woah dont make fun of his animal rights club thing, you texans you. animals have rights too. grr.

but unfortunately for them, they taste good.

haha very funny. that still doesn't mean that they shouldn't have some rights.

did the animals tell you that?

look, don't try to get me started on this. it's something i'm pretty passionate about. just because they don't have the ability to communicate with us doesn't mean we should treat them like dirt. the majority of the world doesn't give a **** about 'em, but i do. i don't think that we should deprive them of a decent life. i think that everything on this planet deserves a life free of terror and cruelty, and if you disagree then i just feel sorry for people like you.

Actually in Austin, MOST people would be very supportive of the op for being involved in animal rights. Head a little bit south and east and west...and well... it IS a ranching state. :-)

You don't really know what you're talking about. A lot of UTA students are from metropolitan Texas cities like Dallas or Houston where we're not any more likely to have seen a ranch than anyone else.

Uh Vyse - that was a joke.

And I guess I do know what I'm talking about, being a Native Texan, Rio Grande Valley raised, a current Houstonian who is descended from those who fought at the Battle of San Jac. Most city dwellers have managed to leave the city limits long enough to see the wide open spaces we have here in our beautiful state. (I would HOPE.)

Orca25 - I'm joking... poking you...

and by the way, most of the animals we(or maybe just I) eat are farmed/bred like any other crop, and would not be living if there wasnt somebody that wanted to eat them.

Ok. I'm not the bbest at detecting internet sarcasm. I have been asked before by Northerners though why I don't have an amazing tan and who the best bullrider in the universe is.

v - you are right about that. People often have quite a few incorrect notions about Texas and Texans. :-)

what about San Franciscans? :P

yeah I myself lived in Houston for four and a half years actually. and to taffy, you have brought up a serious ethical question about whether it is right to synthetically bring numerous animals into the world only for them to be tortured during their short lives and consequently slaughtered and eaten. hmm just some "food for thought" if you will lol.

Most definitely.
