I will have my Associates Degree in General Studies when I graduate. My GPA at my community college is a 4.0, and I think it'll stay that way.

So given these credentials, what do you think my chances are at these colleges:

University of Virginia (I live in Virginia)
The College of William and Mary

I'm pretty sure I can get in anywhere else in the state for sure but these two. The SAT hurts me slightly, but I think everything else is strong. I'm retaking this fall, but I won't be able to take it before early action deadlines.

What are my chances? I'll chance back!

--

Do you guys think that SAT II's are a must have?

So to clarify, are you a high school student or a transfer student?

@shawnspencer Technically, I think UVA considers me a high school student because the majority of my Associates is completed in a high school environment.

bump

You can take the SAT in October and submit it for the November 1st UVA deadline. W&M is early decision only. Don’t do ED. Do EA at UVA and regular at W&M. Try taking the ACT with little/no prep in September to see how it goes. In case you do well, you get your score in 10 days or so and will have lots of time to get everything ready for the early app. I think you have a really good shot. I know students whose SATs were very poor (1700 for a couple minority students I know admitted), but their unweighted GPAs were very high, they got few Bs in high school and the rigor of their courses was very strong.

Take some SAT Subject Tests. UVA recommends them.

@philipk‌ October isn’t much of an option for me due to other things, but I can definitely take the ACT in September! I’ll look into that right away!

UVA- low reach
W&M- match/low reach
And yes SAT2s are highly advised (especially by UVA), and maybe retake the SAT
Some ECs more in 9th-10th grade would have been nice but it is fine! GPA is decent :)

Chance back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1666543-chance-me-jhu-yale-harvard-brown-case-western-osu-washu-uchicago.html#latest

Your SAT scores are low, so spend this summer preparing for ACT or SAT.
By the way, SAT scores for W&M and UVA are almost same even though W&M is “easier” to get in.
For W&M, I think you will at least be waitlist even with the current SAT score.
I’m not sure for UVA, but my friend got in with 1900s on SAT (Regular Decision)

What high school do you go to? My school’s marching band is the largest or the 2nd largest marching band in VA. We win several competitions every year, but we never went to the State Marching Band Competition. I never heard of it.

8th grade algebra 1 club

SAT:
Critical Reading: 630
Math: 600
Writing: 600

1230/1830

^I think that’s what’s hurting you the most. And I don’t really understand whether or not your classes labeled “AP/DE” are AP or Dual Enrollment. If they’re AP then that’s great (if your school deems AP classes the most rigorous). Your grades are great and your extracurriculars are decent, but keep in mind that many people applying to UVA and W&M have around the same GPA as yours paired with higher SAT’s. You should retake the SAT and maybe consider taking the ACT.

@ribbonroad224‌ At my school, they’re the same class. You earn the Dual Enrollment credit from the local community college while also taking AP level classes.

@VaishS I have other ECs from 9-10 but they were regular memberships so I didn’t list them. Thought I read somewhere on here to only list leadership positions/community service stuff.

Currently UVA is a reach and W&M is a high match. SAT scores are hurting, try to get them up to 2,000+ for W&M and 2100+ for UVA. Maybe try the ACT
