Hi! I’m a junior in high school in hopes to attend UW. I am in love with the atmosphere and the diversity, so UW seems to be the best choice for me. I have a 3.6 unweighted GPA, a 1270 SAT score, and am taking APUSH, AP Lang, and AP Psych right now as well as all honors classes. I will be able to bring up my GPA to a 3.8 by the end of this year and will be retaking the SAT in March. In addition, both my dad and grandmother attended UW, so I do have a family legacy there. My extracurriculars involve a few honor societies, debate, volunteering at the library, playing the violin for 9 years, and a few other random ECs. Coming from out of state, are my chances high or low for being accepted at UW?
ECs and essays matter a lot but I think you should be fine! I got in last year with about the same stats as you but I wasn’t taking as hard classes, also i had no legacy. good luck! feel free to PM me if you have any other questions!
Your major will matter a lot, and being from out of state will hurt both admissions chances into the most popular majors and increase your costs. Make sure you can afford the OOS tuition and be sure to have backup schools if your major is engineering, business, or nursing/medical related.
