Hey Allyson, I'm a member of the 2011 Bryn Mawr class and from your stats I would say that you have a good chance at BM. I would suggest that you get some leadership roles over the summer and an internship because BM really likes to see that your not just a bunch of numbers. I also applyed to Haverford and Barnard (accepted at Barnard and waitlisted at Haverford) and I would say that you have a good chance at those schools also. As for Smith and Wellesley, I don't have first hand knowledge, but I think the acceptance rates are similar. If you have any questions about women's colleges, especially Bryn Mawr, feel free to ask (I love talking about BM!) I also know a lot about financial aid, since that was one of the most important factors in my decision. Good luck Allyson!

Thank you for your advice. Actually, I would love to know about your financial aid process. When I did my interview over spring break, my interviewer discussed the "needs met" concept. How true did you find that to be? And when did you hear back about your financial package? Anything else you can think of that is important about financial aid would also be enormously helpful.

Judging from how I did and how my friend did (both of us are less accomplished than you SAT-wise) you will most definitely get into Dickinson and Bryn Mawr and have a really good shot at Haverford. I got into Bryn Mawr and got waitlisted at Haverford, which I think is the most selective school out of the ones you're applying to. One thing you can do to maximize your chances at Haverford since it's so tiny is to get really, really good at something even if it's just one thing, like your theatre or chorus. I think tiny schools like that tend to take less well-rounded kids who are awesome at a couple (sometimes obscure) things because they know that they will have a fallback option for a career and will probably be really sucessful in life as long as they keep it up. They're all great schools, best of luck!

Thank you for your advice. I greatly appreciate the help. Unfortunately, I don't know if I'll have much luck getting good at it. I'm rather mediocre.

i'd be shocked if you didnt get into bryn mawr

I agree that you'll amost certainly get into Bryn Mawr.
Good luck! I'm going to Swat next year, so I always approve of BM&H people.
:)

Thank you to both of you. I greatly appreciate everyone's help.

hey allyson, sorry it took so long to reply (aps!)
Without getting into too much detail, it was estimated that my family could contribute around 9k per year for my education. The first financial aid offer we recieved was much less then we had expected, so what my family did was appeal our offer to the financial aid committee. My family never believed that we would get enough money to send me to any private school, but Bryn Mawr is very good about meeting need if you truely need money. In terms of awards, I don't think they give out merit awards, I think they are based on need. In addition, my family also recieved several stafford loans which do not have interest attached. Each freshmen also works in the cafeteria, so that gives me around 2k more each year to put towards my remaining tuition costs. I hope this helps a little!

Thank you. That does help quite a bit. Financial aid is one of my mother's main concerns.
