chances at various places, or give me suggestions! D:

SAT: 800 CR / 740 Math / 800 Writing (9 on the essay)

ACT: 36 (10 on the essay)

SAT-IIs:
German: 720
Literature: 790
Math IIC: 800

Unweighted GPA: 3.6
I've taken 3 APs (no results yet) and am taking 4 more next year, along with 7 or 8 honors classes total. I'm in the 3rd decile (although this is all based on unweighted GPA, thanks to my school's wonderful policy of ignoring APs and honors classes). also, I got a 3.0 freshman year, so my grade trends are definitely in my favor, as I've gone up over half a point in the four semesters since then, with harder classes.

As far as extracurriculars go, however, I'm kinda a bum. I have four years of chess club (I can hear the admissions officers' heartbeats quicken already...) as well as two years of German club, although it didn't even meet (it will next year though and I'll still be in it - perhaps I can just put down how frequently it met my senior year and ignore the fact that it never did previously? well, forget that, one step at a time.). I'll probably join a few more this year. I'm doing volunteer work this summer, probably a decent amount, but I didn't do any in the past. I did a month-long foreign exchange program to germany (and hosted a german dude here) in the summer before my junior year and will be doing it again after my senior year, if that helps me out at all. I also will get some kind of National Merit thing for getting a 234 on the PSAT.

I am looking at Rice, Vanderbilt (those two in particular), Northwestern, Wash U (I'm a double-legacy there), Tulane, and University of Washington as a backup (I do not live in Washington). I am also considering, to a lesser extent, Carleton College, Emory, North Carolina, and George Washington University, although I have yet to visit any of them. Any other suggestions, by the way, would be appreciated - really, my only "set in stone" requirement for a college is that it be reasonably large (Carleton is an exception), preferably with 3000+ students. I realize that's pretty much nothing to go on, but if there's anything that fits my "statistics" better that you might suggest, that would be appreciated. keep in mind, though, I plan to be less of a bum in college, so don't tailor your suggestions to that aspect of my profile.

anyway, thanks for any advice.

edit: also I am white, and not underpriviledged or any sort of unique special background

Great chances based on your scores.......but you're kinding of lacking in the ECs.

You should be in Wash U for sure with your legacy. Probably in at all the others too.

thanks for your input

hey any more input would be appreciated
also I am considering Georgetown now, how am I there?

Boston College might be easier than Georgetown for you. You should take a more pro-active approach with the German club. Why don't YOU run it and try to make something of it? You seem to have an interest there- it may be your best bet to make the ECs look better. When you write up your ECs or discuss them in an interview, don't say that the German Club never met last year. Phrase it in a way that does not reveal that, but is also not dishonest. In other words, do something and talk about THAT. Maybe you can breathe life into the German club and leave something of value at your school when you graduate (groom a successor to carry on after you leave). Something along these lines will make your applications shine. By the way- your test scores sure shine, congratulations. Well, I like your college list and think it's reasonable. Tulane sounds like a good safety, George Washington would be another reasonable one. I think that Georgetown likes ECs, so it may be tough unless you do something more with the German or some other activity. But, with those scores, you would still have a reasonable chance.
