Chances at Villanova

I am a senior in high school and am just about to embark on the college application process. I have recently really begun to like Villanovan, for many reasons, including academic presitge and religious affiliation.

I am wondering what my chances are assuming I write quality addmision essays.

Stats:
-Rural Pennsylvania public school (white male)
Religion: Roman Catholic
-Rank 20/196

  • GPA Officially 4.0 (according to high school, but on a 100 scale its 95.6%)
  • SAT 1820 Math:580 Reading: 560 Writing: 680 (I know they don’t count it but I wonder if I can use it to my advantage at all)
-4 total AP courses (including 3 this year)
-All other core classes were honors (excluding Physics)

Extracurriculars
Varsity Golf: 4 years, current team captain
Varsity Track: 4 years
FBLA: 2 Time state qualifier
NHS and Rho Kappa Social Studies Society member
Boy Scouts: nearly eagle scout (will do project within a month)

Any I formation would be helpful as Villanova is quickly becoming one if my top choices,

Thank you

Most likely in.

@Orioles21 You should apply but your test scores are well in the bottom 25% and you should be aware it is an uphill battle.

@AStern I’m taking the SATSAT again in October, how much better would my chances be if I improved to 600 flat in both reading and math?

You need a 1300 to have an average chance of around 50%. A 1200 would help a lot so maybe with your good grades they get to average.

You will need higher scores for the business school that’s for sure.

You can’t rely on getting in any one school these days even if you love it.

What others are you applying to?

@AStern thanks, I really appreciate it, I plan on applying to St. Bonaventure, Penn State, and Pittsburgh as well

Scranton and Siena would be smart.

What do you want to study?

@AStern I visited Scranton and it just didn’t click for me, probably will enroll undecided, with an intention of going to dental school

Bonaventure has a guaranteed program with University of Buffalo Dental school.

@AStern I have looked in to that program and was actually pretty impressed with Bonaventure when I visited, its just in a tad bit too rural of an area

@Orioles21 I am not going to say Olean is a pretty town but it does have over 20,000 people so its not actually a rural area. That campus has a lot of life.

St. Michael’s in Vermont is another very good school.

Villanova is considered a ‘score’ school and your SATs are low for them so definitely retake them.
How about Fordham or Loyola Maryland?

@Orioles21 Loyola is a great suggestion. Muhlenberg is also.

@Wisteria100 how much more of a chance would I have if I scored over 600 in both math and reading on the October test?
