I'm a Junior... What are my chances at Wharton and at UPenn?

I'm so jealous of your writing score (just got mine today). I've taken the test 3 times and had a 10/20 pt improvement each time.
Anyway, don't screw badly up on your SAT II's, then you should be fine

"I'm so jealous of your writing score (just got mine today). I've taken the test 3 times and had a 10/20 pt improvement each time."

Heh thanks... I was so happy. Guess I had a good tutor... Got me 100 on the English Regents too :)

I actually thought I was going to get a 12 on the essay and do alright on the mult choice to end up with an 800... but I got a curveball question (November's test) and ended up with a 10 and only 1 wrong on the mult choice... so it worked out.

Any other opinions?

Steve, as someone who was deferred from Penn in the ED round, I think you have a decent shot at Penn in the regular round. I had a 1450 sat score and 96.2 gpa UNWEIGHTED at an extremely competitive public school on Long Island, and 730, 720, 700 SAT II scores. In addition, I took 4 APs junior year and currently in 6 APs this year. My schedule was therefore very rigorous. I think that sat II scores are required at Penn like most other top school and ivy league schools and I think that most other applicants will have stronger schedules (meaning more APs before their senior year). However, I do not know what your school offers. Good Luck

how were your ECs, recs, and essay pennhopeful
u must have messed up in one of those categories to have been rejected ED
ur stats are pretty good though, u should try ED II just to see if they defer or reject u again

Actually, I was DEFERRED, not rejected, but probably will end up being rejected. Anyways, for my stats, here they are.

My stats:
96 GPA (UNWEIGHTED), we do not weight averages and we use a 100 point scale. For example, we are given averages out of 100 and then they are all averaged at the end of the year. A 90-100, B 80-89, etc
9 Honors courses taken, 10 AP courses (4 junior year courses)

SAT: 1450
SAT IIs: 730 (writing), 720 (Math IC), 700 (US History)

Mid Year Senior Grades
We have 2 semesters (each semester has 2 quarters), and colleges will see my first 2 quarters of my senior year

Senior year courses
AP Physics A B
AP Calculus BC A A
AP Eng Language A A
AP Economics A A
AP Spanish Language A A
AP Psychology A A

Essays, put it this way, my english teacher who is the Department Chair said she absolutely Loved it and it was extremely personal too.

Good Extracurriculars which i will not list at this time b/c when i tried to copy and paste my resume, the format got all messed up but I am apart of many clubs and president of one organization that I started at my school (community service organizion) and Captain of the Tennis team
-staff writer for the school newspaper
-have won many tennis tournaments
-have done a lot of community service--peer tutoring
-have done research outside of school, entered my project into Intel and Siemens Westinghouse
-have played in outside orchestras
-apart of Model UN and Math Team, have won some awards

THANKS

"I think that sat II scores are required at Penn like most other top school and ivy league schools and I think that most other applicants will have stronger schedules (meaning more APs before their senior year)."

I'll be taking Bio and Math SATIIs in June... so that'll be fine. And the "still to take" APs is referring to the actual test, not the course. I took one last year and am currently taking three. I have five next year.

And I'm really looking more towards Wharton... which is obviously more selective...

What is your unweighted average, steve?

I'm not sure... Last time I checked it was ~97... Probably a little higher now and higher still by the end of this year...

Anyone have an answer... :P

By the way... I forgot to mention that I made a website a couple years ago (I was 14 I think...). It's become pretty popular and brings in about 6 million hits per month and a total of over $1,000 through advertisements.

It's about a TV show, so it's nothing that's going to have a major impact on society. But, I have a very large regular fanbase. Plus, its rigor and relative profitability will show dedication and entrepreneurial spirit... My guidance counselor says it will be a good asset to my resume and might actually set me apart from other applicants and make the difference between acceptance and rejection...

For reference, it's www.briansbar.com . If you're looking through it, expect a few minor layout glitches since I redesigned it recently.

And, I'm in the midst of a site for my division's Key Club since I'm now Lieutenant Governor. This should be nice since it'll show real leadership and unification efforts... or something. I have a temporary setup at www.briansbar.com/keyclub .

So anyone have an answer for me?

Hehehe, love the website, definitely put it on your app. I agree that if you do well on your SAT IIs you should be fine.

Nice website...good luck.

I didn't know optimus prime was jewish!

hey hey! i'm an LTG too ^^
i was deferred from wharton
1490 sats, 780 writing, and two crappy 720s
my schedule is packed with APs.. last year, too, and my GPA is about a 3.9
um, concertmaster of school orchestra, regions, stuff like that

(yeah. i was reading ur post and i was like haha dang, sounds like me (kind of)) and there fore...honestly, you really need to stand out to get into wharton. if you apply to penn college it will be a lot easier, but still... not that easy

it's getting more competitive every single year. high stats definitely don't do it anymore. all the kids that have gotten into ivies and such this year so far have been recruited athletes.

btw, i'm probably going to get rejected. like 90% chance

apply to nursing =P

Oh man... sounds like you have some good stats afaforce. And where are you from? If you're a New York LTG, maybe I'll see you tomorrow at the Mid-Winter Training conference?! Ha that would be funny...

Thanks for the responses... Sounds hopefull...

By the way, glad you guys like the site :P... Hope it helps out my app a bit.

hahahah if i were a NY ltg you should KNOW me.. assuming you guys have board meetings and stuff =P

but nah. i'm a state over. =) ours is in a month, and i'm chair of it! whooo

good luck "steve"!

Nah I'm "LTG-elect" so this is my training conference.

Thanks.

You can't really judge by exact number of AP's taken because some schools don't offer as many.

I was going to a school where I was permitted to take AP Biology my sophomore year but then I moved and they put me in PreAP Chemistry instead and I had to fight to the death with them to get AP Psychology.
