EC: A lot of different clubs I'm involved in, a couple leadership positions and a couple awards. I'm in NHS, President of a Business club, Vice president of a another club and other random stuff. I should have amazing essays (something just happened to me and my consuelor said it should make a good essay ). I also have 150+ hours of community service. I also did an internship at a law firm ( my intened job, eventually). I want to major in poli-sci/business.

I'm in state and wondering my chances for UVA and William and Marry ED next year. I think my GPA and standardized test scores just go up a notch or two (I'm a junior).

Since you're in-state you have a fairly good chance for both, especially if you apply ED to one of them. However, your GPA and especially your ACT score need to brought up a bit. Your essay also has a huge effect, so make sure it's good. Since you're a junior, you've got time to improve. When you do apply next year, make sure you sound like you sound much more passionate about your EC's, because unfortunately a lot of other people applying have very similar ones and to me it sounds like you're just in them for college. But I could be completely wrong, obviously, since it does look good that you have leadership positions in them and you probably devote quite a bit of time to them.

Also make sure that when you apply to William and Mary, you spell it correctly.

Thanks for the advice, I knew something looked funny when I spelled it. I am very passinoate about my EC's, I even started one of the clubs I'm in, I just didn't feel like listing them. I'll work on the ACT. Thanks for the honest opinion. Any more opinions?

I'm applying to WM too!!!! except I'm applying this year not next year...if you're in-state I think you've got a good chance. WM really likes to see passion, and are sort of random with acceptances from what I've heard. They're pretty numbers-driven, but they really take everything into consideration. UVA is more competitive than WM and has a larger applicant pool, but still you've got a shot. My best advice is to keep up the good grades, and really focus on the ECs that mean the most to you. Best of luck, you'll do great! ^_^

From everything I've experienced and been told by my guidance counselors UVA is harder, but I can't be 100% sure; it could also vary depending on your background and school, etc...

William and Mary is more competitive to get into than UVA, possibly by the number of available spots for freshman. That's just my opinion. Several in my high school class were waitlisted at W&M, while accepted at UVA. Both GREAT schools.

They're about equal as far as difficulty of admittance. William and Mary's acceptance rate according to US News is 35%, and UVA's 39% so as you can see, they are about the same but, statistically, William and Mary is a little bit harder.

Just to let you know...and i know most of the people on here know this...I was deferred early by WM.

GPA dosen't mean anything compared to class rank. You might go to an easy school where 4.0 isn't very hard. With your GPA, it takes you out of the top 12% of your class. What high school do you attend?

I go to James River in Midlothian. We don't have much grade inflation, just a lot of smart kids.

There isn't another school in the county where, on the same grading scale, I'd be higher than #30. At most of them, I'd be in the top 25 easily.
