Since I need any little bit to help, should I write both the Common Application essay and the WM Supplement Optional essay? Also, how much faith can you put into College Admissions Services? It has been mentioned in quality newspapers and it has a %98 accuracy rating.

Oh, even better - you're asian. Look, apply to W&M, but don't expect to get in. It may well happen, but it's likely that it won't. Don't waste your money on college admissions services.

Okay, I appreciate your honesty, but I don't appreciate your sarcasm. I was just simply responding to one of your posts about me being white. I wasn't suggesting that it's a major factor in admissions.

My D was accepted to W&M, and I was very unhappy that she chose to go elsewhere. But...that's another story. She was a white female, out of state (New England) and we all thought that she wouldn't get in. She did have 2320/2400 on SATs and 4.8?weighted GPA. I'm not sure, but I think she was accepted because of her essays, not just her stats. She really put extra effort into them, especially after being deferred from Dartmouth in the ED pool. Anyway, go for it with W&M because I remember reading in past posts that the Virginia students were accepted with lower stats than the OOS students. My daughter and I watched the postings after 4/1 and noticed that there was a significant difference between the OOS and instate statistics. Anyway, put your heart into your app, you never know! If you play a musical instrument, be sure to highlight it. Show them how you will be a great person to have on campus!

After going thru this process with my daughter, my best advice is to hope for the best...but always prepare for the worst. My daughter was accepted to, and is attending, her 3rd choice college (she applied to 8? if I remember correctly). Most were acceptances, but the 3-4 rejections were horrible. To this day, when we hear the name Dartmouth, we cringe at how many hours we spent visiting, writing letters, updating the application, only to be rejected in the end. Also, don't tell everyone you see about W&M. If you get rejected, it will only be more difficult. It is especially painful when you hear of other students who seem ( on paper) to be remarkedly less qualified, and they get in!

Good luck...W & M it is truly a beautiful college, but there are many other colleges out there too! Visit as many as colleges as possible, and remember, it's nice to go to a college that really wants you too!

Cavalier.............who give a red rats ass about California anyway............and why do you spend so much time on the William and Mary board. I never go on the UVA board..............what's up with that?

cindy_jade1, I'm doing the optional essay. It's an wide-open prompt and you can respond any way you want, basically. I figure it's a good way (along with the optional interview) to show how much I love the college and want to be accepted.

unless it changed, the "optional" part doesn't have to be an essay, keep that in mind. When I applied it was do whatever you want with one side of a paper.

pedsox, I don't spend a ton of time on the W&M board. I venture over here from time to time because I like W&M and know a bit about the admissions scene. Do you have a problem with my posting here? If you feel the need to post on the UVA board then by all means do so.

Cavalier, I guess it was just your comment about "all other Virgina schools suck" that made me wonder just how much you really do know about the "admission scene". Of course I don't have a problem with you posting and have found many of your former posts to be helpful. You would be wise to admit that Virginia stands out for their excellent choices for in state colleges. Peace out.

My comment about the other VA schools sucking had more to do with the fact that I think the OP can do better than JMU/VT if she doesn't get into UVA/W&M. She should aim a bit higher, IMO.

I've decided to wait until regular decision. GPA is reconfigured after every semester. I'm looking at an A in: AP Gov, AP English, Honors Anatomy, Honors French 6, Computer Info Systems I, Technical Drawing. I'm probably going to end up with a B in AP Calculus AB. My GPA would then be 3.9 and rank around early 20s out of 292. With that change, does anybody think I have a better chance?
