thanks for your responses!

High probability of admission unless she writes awful essays.

yeah alli... you're fine... you'll have good rec's, good essays, and you're so smart

"SATI: 720 V, 780 M, 700 W"
Sorry, but the 700 for writing is such an odd concept for me

what do you mean?

does chicago really look at the writing scores or something? will a 720 screw me over?

Sorry about the confusion concerning my comment about the SAT score. It's just that when I took it, there was no writing category, and I am thinking it really sucks for everybody taking the test now to have to conquer that portion of the test as well as english and math.

BUT, seeing as that is irrelevant and unhelpful, age136- your friend's information looks awesome. The biggest piece of advice I could give her is, once the application is available, to start working on it and just to be aware of the deadlines. ALSO, to consider either EA or ED applications, seeing as it is her first choice. Peace.

The "uncommon" essays are more important than the SAT writing score.

just...apply...

I really think that you will get in. If you write great essays that showcase your intellectual ability, then you can get in.

UChicago should be pretty easy. aim a little higher for a first choice.

There may be more popular, but I would argue there is none higher than UChicago if quality of education and committed intellectualism is the goal.

As for easy, there were students in S's class admitted to Ivy's and others such as Duke, turned down at Chicago. A look at their essays suggested why. Which is why I said earlier to focus on those essays.

the two people who went from my school were rejected from all their ivies. so thats why i have my perspective.

one of those moved to the US 4 yrs ago, so wasnt eligible for the TOEFL, but had to live with a sub 500 on the SAT verbal.

If she doesn't have any leadership in those clubs, her ECs are pretty weak besides the Columbia internship. I don't think the trip to Spain will do much except show she has money.

thats what i told my parents (that the trip would do nothing) but they said to put down anything and everything....and ya, i know my ec's are weak but i was hoping the internship and teaching english to spanish-speaking immigrants would help, and possibly my chinese lessons

it doesnt say there, but the spain trip was actually more of a summer school sort of thing to help me learn to speak spanish more fluently

o ya, btw....im the friend shes talking about, sorry forgot to mention that...:/

over 1100 posts and still clueless.

who me? im done with that crap. ill be in college this fall.

if you believe in chances posts as having any use whatsoever, that is cluelessness.

yeah. if youre ranked in the top ~3% at the princeton day school or princeton junction HS whatever, thats very very impressive. dont you guys send most of the top 10% to very competetive schools? and i wouldnt say that your ECs are weak. you simply have the requisite ECs, nothing wowing, but nothing too shabby either
