If you look at the UT common data set, the 2 factors ranked as “most inportant” are rigor and class rank. GPA is not considered in the admissions process. 77% of this year’s freshman class were ranked in the top 10% of their high school class. So I personally would not consider UT a safety for you. NOT saying you won’t be accepted! Just saying that I would look at adding another safety to your list if I were you. Best of luck!!

Bump…does anyone have any experience with it Austin BFA in theater studies major?

Thank you very much that is what I thought…I will try and find another safety school then

reader - If you post some information about what type of school/program you are looking for you might get some good ideas from others either currently going through the process or who went through it in the past. You may want to post in this thread since it is so active right now:

Thank you so much, I’ve just posted there

We visited UT this summer - mostly to make a family member who is an alumni happy. But it is not my first choice for my D for her undergrad; in fact, it is not actually even on her list, for reasons that are our choice and make sense to us, NOT because it isn’t a great school, because it really is.

But, you know how a lot of schools will hasten to emphasize that at their school, undergrads get plenty of work, get roles, get hands on right away, etc etc? They won’t tell you that at UT. UT does focus on it’s grad students and it does not apologize for doing so. It has a different philosophy and a different focus. Our D wants to go back sometime later and get her MFA in costuming and UT is absolutely her first choice because the costume department is absolutely out of this world…but it’s just the kind of school that does put a lot of emphasis on grad students and if they do promise that won’t impact undergrads, it is certainly something I have never heard them say.

For some students, being exposed to everything and the amazing program and facilities and faculty is worth having to wait a few semesters to get very hands one. Others may not feel that way. I don’t mean to disparage it because it is the flagship school of Texas for a reason and the drama department is amazing…but it might not be for every one.

(and that’s if you get into the school itself, which isn’t necessarily easy)

From your other posts it sounds to me like you want to be hands on from the get go and everything I have heard about UT indicates to me that it may be a couple semesters before that happens. (please, if anyone has knowledge that I am wrong, feel free to correct me, but I wanted to respond to this poster and I am just a bit familiar with UT)

There are a lot of good theater programs in Texas even if some of them are not nationally famous. You have only mentioned a couple of programs. There are quite a few more for you to explore.
