Chances/Bowdoin in General

I’m a junior in NJ.

SATs: 660CR 590M 700W

Average: 94% (my school doesn’t use GPA, but according to the CollegeBoard chart, I’ve got a 4.0)

EC: Co-capt debate team, co-president history club, president/founder writer’s club, co-secretary-general model UN

I’ve won a few writing awards, as well as some awards with Model UN and Model Congress.

I’m also interested in what people who go to Bowdoin have to say about it; my college counselor is friends with an English professor there (my counselor accepted him to Notre Dame), will that matter?

Gotta get those SATs over 700, or take the ACT
?Community service?
Always helps to know someone, BUT English profs who don’t know you personally have little/no impact on the admissions office. Could theoretically help if you were wait-listed…
I would plan on a visit as well. Show the love…

actually i think that you could have a chance to get in if you write really good essays, especially considering the fact that bowdoin is SAT- and ACT-optional. bowdoin is looking for well-rounded kids who are passionate about learning, not necessarily those with connections.

Yeah I agree with crazyyy. I had a 1990 and sent the scores anyway. Wasn’t even going to apply because I figured I wouldn’t get in, and now I’m going there! I stayed really connected to my counselor there, and emailed department heads. Handwritten notes always help! I believe my passion for the schools I applied to is what got me 13 out of 13 acceptences, so make sure they know you want to go there even if it may not be your first choice. Good luck!
