Chances...Brown, Swarthmore, and more!

Hey All! I'm looking to get into Brown...or maybe even the Brown PLME (the program where you're guaranteed a spot in medical school), in addition to a few other schools. Here are my stats, and thanks in advance to anyone that replies!

Ethnicity: White male
Location: Oregon (that ought to be good for applying to east coast/ivy league schools, right? Can somebody answer this?)

GPA: ~4.5weighted, 4.0 weighted
Rank: 1 or 2 out of 210

SAT: 2210 (750 CR, 730 M, 730 V)
SAT II: US history- 780
SAT II Chem and Math IIC: I will prob get ~750s.

APs (this is also pretty much my Junior and Senior Year Schedule)
AP US-5
AP Euro-5
AP Chem (taking)
AP Calc AB (taking)
AP English Lang. (taking)
AP Spanish IV (taking)
AP Microeconomics(taking)
AP Bio (will take)
AP Calc BC (will take)
AP Macroeconomics (will take)
AP English Lit (will take)
AP World History (will take)
(I'm probably going to get all 4s or 5s on the APs I haven't taken yet...seeing as how my practice tests are going)
I'm also taking physics and will take anatomy and physiology senior year.

I'm also getting my HS to offer an Into to Organic Chem class.
ECs:
~Varsity swim team, grades 9-10, 3rd in state, underclassmen team captain. knee injury= i quit it
~Cross Country and track varsity teams, grades 9-12, 1st place team in cross country state.
~Model UN- grades 9-12 (country ambassador this year)
~Boy Scouts- grades 9-10- EAGLE SCOUT (will it hurt that I'm no longer in Boy Scouts?--the commute to where I used to live was way too long)
~Science Fair- grades 9 and 12; worked w/ Nike engineer on running impact study
~National Honor Society

Summer Activities:
~This summer I will work w/ a doctor for 8 weeks on a surgical team, helping w/ patients, etc. (this should be good for PLME I think)
~I shadowed a physical therapist and a cardiovascular surgeon the summer after 10th grade. 2 weeks total
~I'm also taking a class taught by some med students for those interested in medicine (6 weeks; 3 hours/week)

Colleges I'm looking into:
Brown and Brown's PLME
Princeton
Union College combined BA/MBA/MD program
Northwestern's HPME
Rice University's combined BA/MD program
Case Western's combined BA/MD program
Grinnell
Amherst
Swarthmore
Haverford
Juniata (safety)
U of Oregon (safety)

Majors I'm going to put down on college apps: Neuroscience (1st choice) and History/ Political Science

So, What are my chances for these schools? Thanks! (I know this was a LOOOONG post)

Valedictorian with perfect GPA and excellent ECs along with a VERY rigorous schedule - I see no problem for you to aim absolutely anywhere you want. You are a very high contender for all those schools, I wuold say. Working on a surgical team!?!?! Wow, that really stand out. Do you by any chance go to Beaverton high?

Thanks, lollipop! I'm really hoping I get the surgical internship---it's one I have to apply for...hopefully, my resume and transcript will help me get the internship and the internship will help my resume like some sort of upward spiral, lol.

This may seem dumb, but I wonder if my SAT scores could be higher. It seems that everyone here shoots for a 750+ in each section. But there has to be a point at which it comes down to ECs and other stuff rather than finding the guy that gets 50 more points on the SAT, right? That point seems to be 700 in each section. I mean, Harvard could take only people w/ 2400s, but they choose not to....

I'm trying to rationalize never taking the SAT again.

Whoa lollipop, I think you're being a bit over optimistic here. Given the competition bbk will face, Brown, Princeton, Rice, Amherst, and Swarthmore are all reaches. Not big reaches, but still reaches. Chances are probably around 10% or about average for these schools. Northwestern is a match. Grinnel, Haverford, Case, and Union are low matches, and should not be a problem.

And bbk, you should take the SATs again. I hate to say it, but without a hook of some kind, you probably need SATs in the 2250 range to be really competitive at Brown, Princeton, Rice, Amherst, or Swarthmore. Your ECs are good, but not anything out of the ordinary, considering the applicant pool for these colleges.

The SATs are not going to be a dealbreaker, it's the ECs that I think are of concern. I agree with amp, throw in your ivy apps but have some strong matches the level below.

suze, why do you think my ECs are of concern? ie, are there not enough. I'm interested in your opinion. Personally, I try to just devote many hours to a couple of activities. (I see some kids w/ such long lists sometimes that I wonder how they're ever going to be able to fit them onto a college app!)

Btw, I'm going to emphasize medicine in my app if I get the internship this summer which will tie into all these other medically-related ECs that I'm doing.

bumpitty bump
