I’m looking to major in Nutritional Sciences and possibly minior in Exercise Sciences. All of my classes are either Honors or regular college prep style. I’ve taken 2 AP classes as of my Junior year, but I’m taking 3 AP’s my Senior Year. I am also taking major-specific electives throughout my senior year. I’m aware that my GPA is a little weak, but I’m definitley working on it.

Running is definitely my biggest Extracurricular. Our Cross Country Team has a good shot at being #1 in the Nation this year, and I’m sure it would look good to be part of a national championship team. I’m a consistant varsity athlete, and I’m definitley going to join the Cross Country and Track teams in College (hopefully at BU).

That having been said, what are my chances at Boston? Thanks.

Honestly, stop posting it. You've posted the same thing across multiple schools' boards more than once. You're a recruited athlete--if they recruit you, you'll obviously be fine. Stop worrying.

haha...that's all I can say.

Alright, honestly I'm just really worried because my GPA sucks, and I go to a school where half the kids go to community college, and the other half of the kids go to UCONN... seriously, I just want to go to a good school with a good running program and NOT end up at UCONN like my (idiot) guidance counselor expects me to

I'm just trying to work myself out of a stupid situation, so I would appreciate some serious genuine input.

Can I get into BU or not?

ok, if you want serious input, without considering that youre an athlete, id say you have a good shot at cgs just because your gpa is a little low. im actually a nutritional sciences major, and you should definately apply to sargent, but if you get put in CGS, its gonna take you a long time to graduate if you want to be a nutrition major. you need a full 4 years to complete just the requirements for a major, and there's not much room for a minor or anything else, unless its a chem minor since you have to take so much chem. the entire nutrition curriculum is posted if you just search under sargent college at BU.

lol... what's wrong with UConn?

It's not BU, that's what.

There's nothing wrong with UConn unless you're from CT. For me, UConn would have been a lot like high school. Too many people from my high school went there. It's just too easy to not make new friends.

loslobos71 is following me around.....haha stalker.....

Well this is my school...

oh yeah....want to know something very disturbing....in the 2004 US News ranking both BU and UConn were tied at 64......ooooo no! haha

It's a publication. No one cares, especially employers...

Excellent Response! haha

It's nothing but the truth.

I agree that employers do not focus much on the rankings.....in fact I think most don't even know of their existence....but these rankings and admission statistics reflect a lot about a university.

BU is a great school, and yes BU has an edge on UConn, but for the money I can not see how BU is better. I graduated with no debt. I got in BU, GWU, and Syracuse as a freshman, but could not reason why anyone would pay that kind of money! (I was hoping for scholarships, but did not get any.)

In 10 years, though, when UConn is finished with its rebuilding, I am certain viewpoints will be much much different. The biggest thing hurting UConn (besides its awful location) is its student/faculty ratio which is 17 to 1. They are expecting to narrow that figure significantly within the next few years. When it is all said and done.....UConn will be ranked at par with Penn State in the rankings.

I totally agree with lostandfound... EVERYBODY from CT just loses it and goes to UCONN because

a) its cheap

b) its expected (all of their friends are going so why not, right??)

I don't like to do things by the book... I'd rather be in debt (I say this now...) and go to a school that will give me a better experience and a better sense of individualism than go to a state school that everybody goes to because its a decent cheap school....

thank you very much for the input, especially AliAngel

UCONN is a great school. However, speaking as someone who will be at BU for a total of 8 years, it's a completely different atmosphere. There is nothing wrong with UCONN, and the US news rankings are bull (ask BU's former president who despised rankings). You apparently have to pay to be in the top 50, and they always look at alumni donations and things of that nature (BU doesn't have too much of that). Don't be offended, omniscient, no one is knocking UCONN. It's just that most of us in this forum, lovers of BU, are happy to go into debt for the learning experience that professors such as Elie Wiesel can offer.

El Cuerpo, don't mention it. And you can PM me if you have any further questions about the nutrition major and things of that nature.
