<p>UVA has been one of my top choices for years, and now I'm ready to finally apply! But I am scared witless... please chance me?</p>

<p>SAT: 2120 (M 700, W 710, CR 710)
ACT: 31 (RETAKING)
SAT II: RETAKING, I had taken 3 previously and scored in the high 600s but the perfectionist in me wants to try for higher :P)</p>

<p>High school type: all girls private college prep Catholic school
Rank: Last time I checked I was 2/130 highly competitive girls
GPA: 4.5 (weighted) 4.0 out of 4.0 unweighted (yay honors/AP classes)</p>

<p>EC:
-soccer 2 years (2 league championships)
-broomball 2 years (league champions)
-crew 1 season
-National Forensics League Member 3 years (speech & debate)
-Editor in Chief of School Newspaper
-long-time part-time job as an office assistant for an insurance and investment company; I do actual financial work (in addition to occasional filing :P)
-Math Club 2 Years</p>

<p>Volunteer Experience:
-Volunteered at an extensive period of time at a local hospital with patients with Alzheimer's & Dementia (maybe 70+ hours?)
-Extensive time peer & middle school tutoring (appointed by the school) (80+ hours)
-Vacation Bible School</p>

<p>Awards:
-2nd place for a local hospital speech contest... 6 students were chosen out of 60+ speeches that were sent in, and I gave my speech and won $300 ^^
-1st Place Spanish Test (Language Day at my local university, which is respected and a good school but not known for being prestigious)
-1st place Best Writer Competition (Newspaper day at this same university)
-1st Place Best Hard News Story (")</p>

<p>Possible Hooks
*writing is my main talent so I will be able to hopefully kick out some great essays (I've already written 1 for the UVA supplement)
*In the National Merit Scholar Program... will probably get commended but that's fine with me! (I hear in fall) - I sent this info to UVA and Kenyon College
*Will get great recommendations probably from my boss and some great teachers
*My scores on ACT, SAT, and PSAT are pretty consistent... 97th percentile</p>

<p>You look really solid to me.
Maybe leave out the 1 season of crew from your application. In some tips thing they say that want quality, not quantity. They’d rather see one four year activity then eight one year activities. So just keep that in mind.
Make sure your essays are stellar, and you look like you have a good shot to me.</p>

<p>OOS no one really knows. I go to a competitive jesuit school and have a 31 act. you don’t really know till you get the letter.</p>
