chances? claremont mckenna

hey guys!, I’m a high school junior from the northeast and I’m really interested in claremont mckenna. My gpa is 3.8 and got a 34 on my ACTs. I’ve been playing piano for 14 years and I’ve qualified for the national piano playing auditions for 10 years, along with volunteering and working as an accompanist, soloist, and teacher. I also fence competitively and I was a usa rep at the world scholar athlete games (not as impressive as it sounds) and started the fencing team at my school. Also, leadership wise, I’m the class rep for school council, won the rotary youth leadership award twice, and was a usa rep at the world youth peace summit. Also, I’ve been in johns Hopkins center for talented youth program for five years and I’ve interned there for their program to promote genetic and genomic research in minorities. How good do you think my chances are for cmc, and should I apply early to increase my chances?

Also, I'm involved in several clubs in my school that all fundraise for the American Cancer society, I'm a relay for life captain, and the research I've been doing at jhu was focused on cancer.
And I've participated in many scholarships pageants and have finished third in the miss america system in my state, but i don't think that very impressive.

Please post your subject test scores, and any high level AP classes you’ve taken. Based on your profile thus far, I think you have a pretty good chance of getting into Johns Hopkins so applying early might not be the best idea. Johns Hopkins tends to like SAT scores too, so please post your SAT scores if you have taken the test. I’ll get back to you after doing these things!

My SAT scores are not as impressive- 2150. But I got an 770 on us history sat II and 780 on chinese. My schools only lets sophomores take one ap and juniors three. I’ve taken apush, stats, and world history, and idk what my scores are yet, but either 4 or 5. Tho I think I have a good chance for jhu, I don’t really like the school that much and I really like claremon McKenna. Also, I’m in the top 5% t my school with a 3.8/4

Yeah that’s great. I would definitely send the US History and Chinese scores. Since your ACT is much better than your SAT score, I would send the ACT score. You’ve done the most, in terms of taking higher level academic courses your school offers, so I think any admissions officer would give you that as a bonus. You have a good chance for JHU, but keep working hard your senior year!

Glight77,
Your qualifications seem very impressive, but one of the biggest aspects of your academic and extracurricular activities that Claremont likes to see is projects and activities (both in school and out) that require collaboration with your peers and leadership in a team-orientented environment. One of the biggest aspects of your resume that Claremont will look for espcially is this team collaboration experience, being a school founded and built on the principles of joint knowledge and communitive advancement. You’ve mentioned that you excel as a pianist, fencer, and academic achiever, but do you have any accomplishments that reflect this aspect that Claremont looks for so closely? I only say this because what you’ve mentioned seem to be very self oriented achievments. They like to see that you can productively work with others in a similar intellectual echelon, and that you can overcome the challenges that come with that (this is in essence just seeing how well you can get along with people). Your scores seem good for admission, the only thing you want to be careful on is languages. Alot off schools look at languages an tens to value them less than other academic scores for a
variety of reasons e.g. simpler tests, prior fluency, etc… I’d also work on your SAT scores, as Claremont, and similar schools, usually like to see both SAT and ACT scores, and see both of them high.

Cmc doesn’t look at Sat subject tests, so you are out of luck on that one.
