Chances...class rank???

hey thanx alot...my list is kind of mixed right now

im from VT, first gen college, so i guess those things give me a little edge.

Brown (ED)
Dartmouth
Georgetown
Duke
Stanford
Pomona
Northwestern
Williams
(those are reach...ish)

McGill
Vanderbilt
BU
Michigan
(I'm pretty confident I can get into these, but as is the theme of this post, it depends on how they interpret my class rank.)

Chances Anyone???
34 on ACT

2120 Composite SAT (This will go up for sure)
780 M (I think this went to 800)
680 V (This probably passed 700)
660 W (This definitly went up alot)

No SATII's because me school doesn't teach to the tests, and discourages them. (I think I'll have to for some schools if im not into Brown ED)
I got a 5 on the only AP offered to me (enviro)

Extracurriculars- Not outstanding, but not too bad...captain of two varsity sports (hockey/tennis), head of leadership, SADD president, etc. Work 20 hours a week. Decent community service (maybe like 200 hours)

I don't know if this is a hook for Brown, but I did the 7 week credit program there, which I paid for out of my own pocket (I think i mentioned that on the APP)

Class rank ios #6, but out of 43, which puts me in second decile. However, the grades are unweighted, and I was interviewed for an article where I was describe as having "the hardest courseload of any senior EVER" at my high school. Should I send this article in???

Essays are really good...like really good.

bump bump bump

uhhh i hate when stuff gets piled up on top of things

December SAT's are in

780M
740V
780W

2300 overall....big improvement

congrats on the new SAT score!

I don't think the class rank will hurt you! NICE stats!

I don't think any school teaches to the SATII's but aren't they required for some of your choices. Maybe you should just take them even though they are discouraged.

Class rank shouldn't hurt you. The counselor will send a school profile and stuff. When you have so little students and a lack of AP classes. Rank 1-10 could be separated by .05 or so. That's how it is at my school.

i think I am going to send my scores to all my schools that don't require them, then wait for the SAT2's and send those results to the places that do. (unless they are good, which will make me send them everywhere)

our school doesn't do 4.0 scale, but the 100 scale
I have a 90, our valedictorian has a 96.
The problem is, aside from one person ranked above me, the other ones have taken the easiest classes, to take advantage of the unweighted grading policy.

this gets them a high rank, and easy money for UVM.

...good for them....sucks for people that want to go beyond their state schools

Brown (ED)- Very solid chance
Dartmouth- See Brown
Georgetown- I think you'll get in
Duke- Really hard to predict, but I like your shot.
Stanford- See Duke
Northwestern- See Georgetown

McGill- Definitely in
Vanderbilt- Great chance of getting in
BU- Definitely in
Michigan- Very good chance of getting in

ohhh, and for georgetown

(i didn't play this up anywhere else)

I'm Catholic, and pretty active in our church (or at least active enough to be considered a real Catholic)

which kind of points me to another question:

Should I bring up religion at schools where it wouldn't help me???

The way I see it, at Georgetown, its a plus, but everywhere else, it's something that I do for like an hour or two a week, and I feel like sometimes its better to leave religion out of the picture.

ohhhh, more good news,

just found out that there are 9 kids enrolled in my class who are doing work at the career center, but are still part of our class.

6 out of 52 now!!!

I don't think there's anything wrong with talking about you being dedicated to your religion in your essay or something. If anything, it shows committment and dedication which is something admission officers love to see.

but i'm not like.....super dedicated....i just go to church once a week, and meet with a youth group, nothing special

my essay is about something that i've done that nobody else has done, and how it changed me, it's pretty strong
