Chances- Early ACTION - Out Of State

Hey, I am planning on applying early action to UNC or BC, I hope it would be a better choice to apply to UNC over BC if my stats are good enough.

Stats:
SAT I- 1480/ Math IC - 760, Math IIC - 800, Bio- 790, Physics- 790, Latin- 750, Writing- 640/

8 APs: Biology, AB Calc, BC Calc, Latin: Vergil, Chemistry, Physics B, English Language, Statistics
-Mostly 5's and 4's

I have a great list of extra-curriculars which I have not compiled yet but will do so. But I have had many leadership obligations and awards with a well-rounded base.

Grades:
Freshman year, I had attended a prep school in which I received a 98.5 average with the highest GPA of a 4.2/4.2 with the most difficult courses and perhaps ranked in the top three students academically.

(Sophmore-Senior)
I attend an elite boarding school, Deerfield Academy, where about 33% of the seniors attend the Ivy Leagues. At this difficult place, I, personally, have an 88 average. The school, however, does not rank. The kids who get accepted to Harvard, Princeton, or Yale get around a 90-93 average. Thus, this school is very competetive and a feeder to the top universities. I am on target for perhaps the lower end of the Ivies and other great institutions.

I am a male, asian indian from New Jersey. When does the application come out for this Fall? Also, when should I send it in????

Thanks.

it sounds like you have a good shot of gettting accepted. If you go to a competetive boarding school, then the admission officers should know it and that will help. Statisically graduates of good boarding schools get accepted into the top universities. So good luck.

To be honest I can't remember the time period when the application comes out, I'm thinking late August or something like that. Apply online, there's more room on the online applicaiton to put things in. When I applied I think i sent my application off in september, but I was ready and very eager to apply when the application came out.

Hey, this is T_college from above with those stats. My account accidentally got deleted. Do you guys think that I have a great-shoe-in chance to UNC? Or do you think that I should rather apply to Boston College than UNC EA? Also, last year, my school had a Moorehead scholar so I am not sure if that may give a good impression to the officers.

There are no out-of-state shoo-ins to UNC. 83% of the school is from North Carolina (on purpose). It is extremely difficult to get in out-of-state.

Both UNC and BC admissions programs are non-binding Early Action so you can apply EA to either (or both) with no consequences other than having to withdraw your app if accepted to a binding early decision program elsewhere. In both cases you would have until May 1 to decide which to accept.

Deerfield is a Morehead nominating school, one of only about 150 such schools outside of NC so you can be sure that the school is very aware of what Deerfield is all about. However, as gman has pointed out, there are no shoo-ins from out of state. Out of state admissions can be as tough or tougher than any Ivy with the exception of HYP, and many accepted to those schools (HYP) regularly turn them down for merit scholarships at UNC. Though a very highly selective school, admission to BC would not be as difficult as admission to UNC because BC has no out of state quota imposed on it which allows UNC to be extremely selective in their admissions decisions.

What is the better fit for you?
