chances for a early decision applicant

hey everyone, I visited Elon today and I fell in love, I finally know the feeling you get when you find the school that's for you. I am considering applying early decision but I plan on visiting again in September and maybe going to a few classes to make sure.

I am very worried about admissions, today they said that they accept about 50% of applicants and about 75% of ED applicants.

So here are my stats, tell me what you think my shot is.

HS located in Maryland
Top 250 HS in America (I think its like number 225)

Side notes: My GPA is by far my worst aspect. I do have a pretty good excuse for the horrible freshman grades. My parents got a divorce the summer before school and I moved out with my mom. So I was thinking about writing a short personal statement about that.

That is pretty much it.

Please give me as much feedback as possible, everything is helpful. BE honest.

If you want to tell me anything cool/differnt/helpful/funny about the school feel free to.

Otherwise if you have any other questions for me, just ask on here and I will respond within 24 hours.

THANK YOU!

We visited Elon this summer also but my D does not fall in love with schools unless she sees them in session. Based on the presentation we heard, and our discussions with the Admissions Counselor, your scores seem to be a fit. They look at academic rigor and the numbers of Honors and AP classes you took, your test scores and EC’s. They also superscore your tests, only using the best scores from your SAT and ACT results. The only thing I am not sure about is they recalcualte your GPA in the admissions process. They assign a score to your core subjects so I am not sure how your GPA will recalculate. If Elon is your ideal choice, go ED. You will know by December 1st if you are in and ED students have priority housing and an earlier orientation. Good luck!

I agree, I defintly need to visit in session.

ELON is a great school in many many ways…

Elon doesn’t want to be just another safety school for anyone and strives to find great fit for both the school and student. Every year they deny some top students because they don’t understand that ELON is looking for commitment and potential not just test scores. Students who show a desire for serious academics along with community and service will be attractive to Elon. — I think you have a very good chance— if you use your personal statement to explain your GPA. Get great recommendations. take challenging classes, And continue to show passion.

Being Class president is cool, but be prepared to explain what you did in the position.

Yes ELON takes a large amount of ED/EA applicants but that’s mostlikely a reflection of the fact that a lot of early students understand what makes Elon different from other schools of the same size and GPA/SAT range and can express to Elon who they are and why they fit. Think the total acceptance rate is still around 40% of all applicants.

Regardless of how much you know and love any school (including Elon) - Do not apply to any school ED if your depending on financial aid. The screens of CC are filled with students who thought applying ED gave them the edge they needed but forgot that if they needed an edge to get into the school that they may not be receiving a great deal of FA. If $ is and issue just apply EA.

I’m pretty sure $ isn’t a issue, I will check on that tonight. Thank you so much.

I e-mailed my local admission officer, to ask if I could spend the night in a dorm and meet some professors… so I will find out soon

Unfortunately, Elon does not do overnight stays for potential applicants according to our Admissions Counselor. She suggested we try to find out any other students from our high school that are current Elon students and see if we could work out something with the student directly. It is a shame, an overnight can be very helpful. They will allow you to meet with professors, attend class and have lunch with a student, pretty much everything but an official overnight. We were told that the earliest we should return for the class visits, etc. would be the 2nd or 3rd week of September since they will be busy with the incoming class.

thank you… i just recieved the email confirming what you said…

too bad…

well looks like I am headed up there late September
