Chances for a Friend

Thanks!

SAT 1550 (790 verbal, 760 math )
My school doesn't use a 4 point GPA scale, it does a unweighted percent GPA. Mine's 98 high
Rank: 1/363

SAT II's:
Math IIC: 800

Molec. Bio: 760

AP's: Chem, Bio, Physics, US History, European History, US Gov, Comparative Gov, APCS AB, Music Theory
All 5's (AP National Scholar)

Senior Year: AP Lit, AP Calc BC (there's nothing more to take at my school)

research internship experience over the summer

EC's (I focused on quality over quantity)

Varsity swimming (4 years, captain junior and senior year, multiple event sectional qualifier)

Clarinet: Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra principal clarinet 2 years, All County every year in hs, Area All State past 2 years, Conference All State (whole state) this year, various other involvement (school musical pit, Erie County Wind Ensemble appearances, etc.)

Harvard Book Award

Some computer programming award/scholarship (I don't remember the name)

Weaknesses I can think of: mediocre interview, teacher and counselor recs, essays?, not a ton of major academic/research achievements (like no westinghouse, RSI, etc.)

No chance, absolutely none, 1550? That's too high. The adcoms don't want you to think your friend is THAT smart. 1/363? Well, I don't know, but the negatives are better. Really. And the SAT II's... what can I say? They're horrible. 800 / 790 / 780? Those are just too low. princeton only wants overachievers and wants you to get OVER the limit. You should have at LEAST gotten 950's on all of them. Lets see. AP National Scholar.... HMMMMMMMMMM... National Scholar.... No, I just don't like that word. Yeah. Scholar, I mean. I don't like that word, "scholar." I think it would be better as... let's see... "Fhumoan." Yes... Fhumoan. All 5's on AP Tests? Geez, You gotta look a bit NORMAL too, Try to pull off a couple 4's. Just study for it a bit more. Hmmm, your ECs are pretty weak too. Varsity Swimming 2-year captain. i don't know, unless you can swim faster than Lance Armstrong, i really don't think you have a chance. The rest is fluff. I expect better from you.

Yes, i'm kidding. You know that "your friend" (although you constantly use "I") already has a great shot and it is pointless to state the obvious. You already listed out your weaknesses, so what am I supposed to say?

mediocre recs and essays will hurt the app quite a bit, considering the student has impressive stats and therefore sets impressive standards that should be met.

I think you'll do fine, but do you have some kind of self-esteem problem? I mean, you have an outstanding record, but you don't want to admit to it, and you believe that it won't come out in your essays in recs. Maybe, you should see a therapist...:/

yeah its okay to admit its your own record... we wont make fun of you... :)

hobbes--LOL on the "swim faster than lance armstrong". although he did swim for a time w/ my coach....

your "freind" has a great shot, Duskstamper. i suppose that really is enough said.

::rolling around... holding stomach.... trying to laugh... but laughing so hard that no sound is coming out.::
