Chances for a kid who was almost diagnosed with cancer

Hey guys,

So freshman year the doctors performed surgery on me and took a lymph-node out of my neck and said it was negative for cancer. However, after running more tests on it, it came out positive for lymphoma. I was devastated and though I was going to die within the next couple of months. Eventually, the report did come out negative and i was not diagnosed with cancer but it led the way for a 2 year long ordeal with health problems that has severely impacted my grades.

Please chance me for:

SAT: 1650

I don’t know too much about those schools and their admittance, but you should definitely write about your health experience/struggles! That’d set you apart!

No essay for CSU’s, but where you live makes a difference.

Is 3.1 your UCGPA? Assuming you are a California resident, you need at least a 3.0 to submit the application, and before they read your essay.

If I where you, I’d include an application to UCR since they are no longer a “referal” school.

^^^ Yes, Im a california resident. Live in SoCal. I’m really trying to raise my gpa over summer and get my GPA .3 more points to get atleast a 3.0. Trying to see if I can take an online BYU course to bump my 2.97 (unweighted) up to a 3.0. Anyone have any advice on this?

3.1 is my UC GPA.

what’s your home state? That makes quite the difference when dealing with public schools

California^^

For San Diego State, WHERE in California makes a pretty big difference with regard to GPA X SAT that gets you in. I beleive the entire campus is impacted, so it’s pretty hard for students outside of the local service area.

My son was dxed with cancer and went through several years of treatment. I don’t think it was a big factor in his college admissions.
