Applying to:

Vassar (ED II)
Kenyon
Macalester
Bard
Skidmore
University of Vermont
University of Texas - Austin (In-state)

Personal statement essay is pretty good, recs should be good (i hope).

My gpa is low mainly because of math/science classes, as i'm more of a history/english person. I also broke my leg severely in 3 places during my junior year. The treatment required external traction (a halo w/numerous pins all the way through my leg) for 4 months, and because of this, I missed 3 weeks of school on an accelerated block schedule - this explains some of my bad grades. My counselor addressed this in her letter.

Anyway, I know Vassar is a definite reach, but what about the rest? Thanks, and good luck to the rest of you.

I think you have a very good chance at all the schools you applied to. I would actually shoot for 1 more reach, just because music could be your hook at many top schools.

It would be too late now. I kinda regret not applying to Oberlin/Grinell, but oh well... Vassar is by far and away my first choice, so hopefully I'll get lucky :)

bump

Specifically... What are my chances at Kenyon/Macalester/Bard?

Thanks.

You seem to be very good with history/hummanities/english, as shown by your SAT score and AP grades. For that, I think you have great chances at your list.

Are math/science grades dragging down your GPA?

Yes, very much so. I have low Bs to Cs in math classes :(. Also, the only D I have in high school is in a pre-ap physics class, although this is mostly due to my leg injury. I received a B the semester after my leg healed.

I think your chances for Kenyon/Macalaster/ Bard are very good,

wow how much does your school weigh hns and ap courses? That's quite a difference.

I think you have a good chance at all the schools you applied to and a fairly decent shot at vassar.
