Chances for a reach school :)

i'm touring over the summer and i'm trying to show as much interest as possible. is the business program 4 years or can you transfer to the business school after your freshman year there? obviously i'm not a great candidate for the business school if i'm applying to it while in high school! so, i'm thinking that maybe i'll apply to the main college.

i know i need to work on my gpa and sat, but they will get higher hopefully! just let me know what you think! thanks!

Well, your GPA isn’t too far out of reach. If you can get 2100+ on your SAT, you will have a solid shot. Just keep working at it. Good luck!

I would agree, up your GPA and rank a bit (at least aim to break into top ten percent) though it’s not absolutely necessary, just gives you way better chances. Also, WashU won’t give you credit for AP Psych so if you’re set on WashU, you shouldn’t just teach yourself to take it.

If everything goes according to plan (you increase your rank and test scores to 2000+) you’ll have a decent shot. I would highly suggest applying ED if you really want to go to WashU.

Thanks for the comments! Any more thoughts?

Chances are, you will most likely be waitlisted~~

I’d be thrilled to even be waitlisted! A lot of the people applying have perfect high school transcripts and so I kind of assumed I would just get rejected.

I think Kong Wen was joking. WUSTL waitlists almost everyone.

Oooh hahaha! Really? Why?

Just FYI - AP Psychology is one of the only (if not the only) AP that Wash U gives no credit for - zero - and that’s even with a score of 5. So as far as Wash U goes, save your time and money and put your effort into your other classes instead of self-studying AP Psych.

thanks for telling me kaykay, i had no idea! either way i would have self-studied psychology, i just find it an interesting topic!

I would also definitely say to apply ED.

Although WashU doesn’t give credit for AP Psychology, my understanding is that you can use it as a pre-req in place of a WashU intro Psych class.

PSYCHOLOGY (L33)
5 Waives the Psychology 100B, Introduction to Psychology, requirement, but no college credit given.
4,3,2,1 No credit or placement given.

So, depending on your major and/or you interests, self-studying for AP Psych could be beneficial. Rather than spending a semester in an intro class, you could spend it in a higher level class. It might also look good on the college app.

Spenier- where did you find that?

Neither engineering nor artsci allows that.

edit:// Well, that’s new (just found it on artsci’s page). I guess it’s new for incoming freshmen since I can’t bypass it.

In case other’s want the location, I found the AP Psych information off of this page:
[Placement and Credit | The College | Arts & Sciences](http://college.artsci.wustl.edu/placement-and-credit)

Specifically, it had a link to this document:
http://college.artsci.wustl.edu/sites/college.artsci.wustl.edu/files/AP_Policy_2009.pdf

There used to be similar information on the Engineering page, but it looks like they may be in the middle of changing it. Here’s what I think the link should be:
http://engineering.wustl.edu/Resources/Registrar/AdvancedPlacementInformation.asp

thanks for all the links!

You’re right: it’s a reach. It is not out of reach though, so work hard to improve your SATs and to write a knock-their-socks-off essay, and you will improve the odds. As you were already advised, you would stand a much better chance ED (which his not necessarily to say you would get in, but the odds would increase in your favor).

Thanks wcasparent!
