Chances for a Rising Senior?

Hi guys. I’m looking at the following schools:

Washington University in St Louis-- ED

University of Chicago

Cornell University

Georgetown University

New York University

University of Southern California

University of Michigan

I appreciate it guys. Thank you :).

GPA= 3.7-- It was a 3.63 at the start of Junior Year, so it was a challenge bringing it up, but I did! I’m also expecting a 3.75 by end of senior year.
4.5 Weighted— Expecting a 4.8 by end of senior year.

Courses:
Freshmen Year: all general courses-- no ap courses are available for freshmen

Sophomore Year:
AP European History — received a 4 (No one really takes AP Euro their sophomore year and it’s the only AP class offered as a sophomore).
Honors Chemistry
Honors American Lit.
Honors Spanish
Honors Geometry
Music
PE

I had B’s in both AP Euro and Chemistry.

Junior Year:
AP US History (AP score will be available next month)
AP Environmental Science (AP score will be available next month)
Honors Physics
Honors British Lit
Honors Spanish
Honors Advanced Algebra with Trig

I had a B in Adv Alg Trig and in both AP courses for my first semester… but I brought those up to A’s for the second semester.

This summer:
-Taking Honors Pre-Calculus at my school (no one does this either, but it’s an accelerated course and it lasts 5 weeks while the year-long course is 40 weeks).
-Taking 3 college courses @ a local university
-Tennis Camp
-Job
-Volunteering at a hospital (about 150 hours)

Senior Year:
AP Macroeconomics
AP Microeconomics
AP US Government and Politics
AP English Language and Composition
AP Chemistry
Honors Spanish
Honors Calculus

Test Scores:
ACT= 29 :frowning: I just re-took it so i’m expecting much higher.
E= 30, M= 29, R= 32, S= 24 (lol, yeah science sucks =D).
Taking 2 SAT II’s in October

Rank: HS doesn’t rank. Competitive public high school in Chicago. sends most kids to top schools. Most likely in top 10% or top 15%, though.

Extracurricular:
-Varsity Tennis-- playing since young age
-Varsity Bowling- bowling since 6 years old
-President of Greek Culture Club (and founder)
-Volunteer @ local park district-- tutor kids
-Student Council — 4 years-- president of Membership for 1 year, advisory representative for 2 years, general member for my freshmen year
-Freshmen Mentoring Program-- 3 years
-African American Culture Club
-Building with Books organization
-Students Against Drunk Drivers
-Scholastic Bowl Member for 11th and 12th grades

Awards:
-4 year Honor Roll/ Principals Scholar
-Science Fair
-Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest winner (yay!)

Extras:
-First Generation College Student
-Turkish and Greek— will that help? probably not
-Recommendations will be really great, I think.

PS- Thank you for reading!

I forgot to mention that I’ll be applying for finaid, and that i’m planning to major in american studies/ political economy.

anyone???

You’ve challenged yourself and its evident in the transcript. I’m of the thought process that a 3.75 GPA is a damn good GPA. Don’t let these 4.0 snobs get you down on this board. You’ve got a good shot.

thanks jack!
anyone else? i’ll chance back. feelin’ kinda lonely here, lol

You really need to get that ACT score up. Preferably 31+.

Your GPA is a little low, but if you can manage top 10% should be fine.

Washington University in St Louis — High Match

University of Chicago — Reach

Cornell University — Reach

Georgetown University — Reach

New York University — Match

University of Southern California — Match

University of Michigan — Match

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/733467-chances-hyps-etc-will-chance-back.html

yup that is the april act! the science sucked on that one. i think the science from the June ACT was much better, though.

do you guys think if i brought my ACT score up to a 32, UChicago and WashU would be matches? or what else could I do to help my chances? I’ve showed a lot of interest to both schools by visiting numerous times and doing programs there.

Yes, getting a 32 would definitely help bring Chicago down into match territory.

your ec’s kick a**, just pull up ur ACT, maybe ur GPA a little and you’ll be fine

I would say everything is a match, except Cornell and Washington would be low reaches, depending on what major you want to go into.

Thanks guys. all your advice is really helpful :)

anyone else? greatly appreciated :D

Basically, same as everybody else has said: get the acts up to a 32, and your chances improve so much! Your gpa is completely fine I think, especially with the classes you took.
Also your school has a bowling team?
so

 1. Washington University in St Louis — Small reach(match if you apply early with a 31 or 32)
 2. University of Chicago — Reach(small reach with a 31)
 3. Cornell University — Reach
 4. Georgetown University — High match/low reach.
 5. New York University — Match
 6. University of Southern California — low match
 7. University of Michigan — Match

Also, get some real safeties. Try like Wisconsin or UI.
