Bummer..I am a junior at Cornell with a 3.85 GPA (Govt Major in A&S). Just took a diagnostic under timed test conditions and only got a 153. I plan to take a course. Any guesses as to whether I can improve enough to get into a T14? (I am part Hispanic, btw)
Thanks

With a 153? You’re not getting in. For a hispanic student, I’d wager… (I’m sure someone else might be able to come up with a better estimate) that a 165-166 would give you a good shot?

This 153 was a diagnostic…the first time I sat down to do a practice test. I am hoping a course will improve my score…do courses improve scores?
I hope a course can get me up to a 166, competitive for Cornell Law

Yes, they typically do.

I think you should be able to at least get up to the 164-5 range. If you go to Cornell, I’ve heard good things about the Kaplan course in Ithaca.

While I would find it a bit discouraging if you use the “race” card for admissions-purposes , but did not live an underrepresented life, do keep in mind that Hispanic background is weighted lower than some other URMs (i.e. African-Americans).

my d’s diagnostic was also in the low 150’s and her Lsat score was 167. So it is possible to improve 10 to 15 points from diagnostic to actual test. She also took the Kaplan course in Ithaca and supplemented it with the “bibles” (gosh it’s a few years now- so the specifics are kinda hazy.)
I know Kaplan gets a bad rap on these boards- but it worked fine for her. Though she really did alot of self studying to supplement the Kaplan course.
PS- she got into a few T-14 schools with a 3.76/ 167 from Cornell ILR- but that was last cycle. I would think a 3.85/165+ and URM status might get you into a T-14. But that’s JMO.
Good luck
