SATs are one of the most important aspects of an application, but if you’ve already taken them and received a 22/2300, there’s no real need for you to retake them, unless you think you can improve that much more.

And with that GPA and those ECs, you are definitely on track to getting in to any school you want.

oh i haven’t taken them yet, not even the PSATs.
i just want to know how well i need to do.

You are going to want around at least a 2250, but its relative to the general strength of the rest of your application (which is high).

Your application is strong but i recommend not putting all your EC’s on your apps to keep your list from becoming the dreaded “laundry list.” Your on the right track, keep it up. :)

Oh so i shouldn’t add all the clubs i’m in

President of the Psychology Club looks very good. You’re clearly good at art (and everything else it seems like
) so try for a leadership role in that club this year! The goal is that other people will be able to see your passion for certain activities just by seeing what you look like on paper. Make sure your activities list represents you and your interests in a positive light.

Your clearly a very bright girl. Work extra hard studying for the SAT, and you should be just fine. Very strong applicant all-around, and early on.

Good luck!

thanks! what else might i need? other SATIIs? APs? does HSPAs count?

Take both the PSAT and SAT this October, so your study time does double duty. The Oct test is also one of the ones that you can buy the answers for, so it helps with your understanding of why you got the score you did.

I would take the Math SAT2. I think that one is required by some schools, and for some reason I feel like it holds a lot of weight. Your APs are great. I don’t know what HSPAs are…

I would recommend taking another SAT II or two, because i’m sure you’ll be able to pull off a 750+. And yah don’t put all your EC’s on your app, put the ones which you commit a good amount of time to per week. And since your going into junior year, make sure to really get to know a couple of teachers so you can get stellar recommondations from them later on.

I don’t often answer chances threads but…

From your user name and curriculum, I presume that you are an asian female which is a very competitive application pool.

You are probably Chinese and were fluent in it outside of school. If that is the case, your 800 Chinese and 5 AP Chinese are going to carry minimal weight. I even feel like I read somewhere that that is even frowned upon. But I do not know that for a fact.

You are obviously a very smart very busy young lady. But at the same time, your ECs are all over the place with very little depth.

If I were reading your application using only what you have posted here, it would look to me like a smart student who basically spent her high school years trying to create a college application. That will still get you into many schools but there are schools, the very very selective, for which that will have very little appeal. Those schools have too many other applicants that are equal or even better. There is no sense of the college knowing what you will bring to their school. Top universities are looking to “build” a class and they tend to want to be able to predict what it is you will continue to do in college. With your list below, nothing jumps out as something you are passionate about. (BTW I have no problem letting them see ALL your ECs as long as there is one or a couple that stands out form the rest.)

The good news if that you are doing well. Your academics are strong. You now need to get depth into your ECs. You need an SAT II that is not Chinese (assuming I was correct above). You need good enough SATs. I like the 2250 suggested above. Remember ACT is also an option.

thanks!
to smoda61… i guess the pink in my username gave it away ;D oh and girls tennis
yeah i feel more bio/science oriented. What should I do to make my application have more depths? internship maybe? volunteering at science labs?
anyone?

My best friend landed a research gig at a good local college studying quail egg embryos and stem cells with other college students. I know she really loved it, and she’s using that experience to write her own research paper for a senior capstone project for our scholars program. I think something like that holds a lot of weight. I would recommend contacting professors at schools near you to see if they have any summer research projects that could use a very mature high school student! Also, if you are interested in medicine it is very common to volunteer at local hospitals.

Make sure you take AP Calc eventually. If you can, I would recommend taking it this year.
You’re great at standardized tests. You can probably get over a 2300 on your SAT. Do that if you want to get into Yale, Princeton, Harvard.
Make sure you take the Math II subject test and do well on it.
Try to be a leader in some way this year. Lead one of the clubs you are in right now, or get something started. It’s great that you have won various art competitions, but they do like to see people who can lead others.
With all that you are a competitive applicant.
