Chances for Aerospace Engineering?

Demographics: Male, parents are from caribbean (both doctors), PA, Go to a small catholic school, URM???(idk) I’m actually a year younger than the average 11th grader

Intended major(s): Aerospace Engineering(Possibly Mechanical engineering)

Academics: ACT: nope SAT: got 1860 on old PSAT, 1250 on new PSAT. 1360, 1340, 1360, and a 1490 on the 4 practice SATs. Will get actual results in June SAT II: Taking MATH 1 and 2 in June

Class rank: Almost surely top 3(really small class, tho) UW/W GPA:I dont actually know, I calculate around 3.89 for 9th thru 11th so far

Coursework :–Took APUSH, LAng as far as AP classes. Took all available honors courses throughout highschol. MAth: Geometry H, Algebra 2 H, Trig H, Pre Calc H, Stats H, Calc H. Science: Biology H, Chem H, Anatomy and Physiology H, Physics H (my school does not offer any AP math/science besides APES lol) Also took other classes, but these apply ot my major.

Awards: Nothing really besides stuff in my school

Extracurriculars: ALtar served about 100 times throughout HS, will be doing it more oftem from now on. 4 year varsity soccer(best player according to coach, probably captain next year). NHS member. other misc volunteer stuff. Registered volunteer in my local public school district to help teach/tutor struggling kids(haven’t done anything yet). MIsc other volunteer stuff. Varsity bowling for 2 years, played saxophone for 9 years. Participated in Junior Band, COncert BAnd, Jazz band, durum line, marching band,

Schools: Penn State, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UT Austin, UIUC, NYU, Pitt, Temple, Lehigh(maybe…idk), Upenn, UMich Ann Arbor(probably no 1 choice) Applying to all EA where possible Any more Suggestions?
ALSO: what should m SAT score be ideally to get into my targets? I am a junior so I will be able to take it at least once next year before I apply.

In at Penn State if you get a halfway decent SAT. Apply to Schreyer, the honors college – gives several different perks and also some scholarship money.

thanks for the insight

Make sure you at least take a glance at Embry Riddle Daytona. It’s kind of a quirky technical school that specializes in aerospace engineering. US News consistently ranks it #1 in aerospace engineering among schools where the highest level is a bachelors degree. Probably not the full college experience but worth a look.

Plus it’s a 5 minute bike ride to the Atlantic Ocean.

yeah i saw schools like that but i kind of want a full college experience since I went to a small school

Understood.

Check this site. You can get a list of top aeronautical (not aerospace) engineering schools. Not sure about how valuable the ranking is, but the list is comprehensive.

will do thanks!

If you are out of state, UT is very competitive for OOS, as the bulk of all students are the Texas top 7%. OOS, international and instate students fight for 5-10% of acceptances. That said, Cockrell is a great engineering school and you won’t know unless you apply.

ok, thanks.

I’m in Aero E at UT Austin right now and it’s a great program, but no cakewalk by any means. If you can bring your SAT score up significantly, then I believe you have a chance there.

I got a 1400. 710 math, 690 reading. Will I need to improve further?

UA Huntsville. They’re located across the street from Redstone Arsenal, with many opportunities for internships and co-ops. They also have automatic merit for certain stats, so check that out. It’s not the normal “college” campus, but it’s not bad.

Thanks will check it out

Hi, I am also looking at aerospace, some of the same schools. Live in a state with no aerospace program so I’ll be OOS at all of my picks.

ACT composite is 34, subscores are 36 science, 35 reading, 34 English unfortunately 30 math but I am taking a prep course to bring that up, fairly sure I can, at least a couple of points. Might take the SAT as I did well on the PSAT,

I’m an Eagle Scout so have done lots of community service & leadership stuff. Play in the school symphony ( first chair) & in an honor symphony for our corner of the state, have won awards at summer music festivals, etc. I hike & ski but no team sports. Have competed in science & academic bowl though our team wasn’t very good, lol. NHS. I have a summer job this summer but have been to space camp in Huntsville, aero really is my thing.

I also go to a small private school, probably am at the top or near it, we don’t rank. 4.0 unweighted GPA. Top 1% on PSAT, will be close for National Merit (but kinda think I won’t make it).

So far I’ve taken AP Chem, and also dual credit US history with a local college. Almost all of my other classes were honors.
Next year AP Calc, AP stats, dual credit computer science, AP English, AP Euro so I’m taking all the AP I can except bio

My schools- VA Tech, GA Tech, Cal SLO, U Maryland, Purdue, Texas A & M, UT, U Minnesota, Penn State.

Please chance me, or if you have any advice let me know. Thanks

@emptyMT This isn’t your thread. Please make your own if you have a new question that is not related to the original poster’s.

Cut UC Berkeley off the list. Admission is insanely difficuly OOS, especially any type of engineering, your SAT score is subpar for competition there, plus you’ll be expected to be full freight.
