Hi, I’m an international student from Eastern Europe, currently studying at a private high school in England through a very prestigious scholarship. My scholarship was for one year only but the school decided to extend it for a Second year so I will be finishing school here, taking A level exams next summer. I’m considering applying to the US since I really like the liberal arts system and I dont know what I want to do yet. However, to be honest I would need a lot of financial aid since my family income is <$25 000. Is it realistic or should I not even try?
Ethinicity: white
Gender: Female
Grades:
Taking 5 A level subjects (normally you take 3-4): Geography, Chemistry, French, English Literature, Art, predicted all As
ACT:
Target 32
IELTS 8.5
Activities:
Debating: won a national league in my home country last year, I was in the national team also, 3rd place at European championship, I was nominated to go to world schools Debating championship
MUN: participated 3 times in my school’s MUN and helped to organize it, won a prize for ‘best delegation’ at a national MUN+Model NATO competition, out of ~500 participants, went to a MUN conference in California
Last summer I went to a summer leadership 2 weeks camping wilderness trip organised by United World College, New Mexico (selected as the only person from my country)
Also, I took part in a summer school organised by Oxbridge & Ivy league students and alumni
At my current school in the UK I do a variety of stuff, I’m a house perfect and form perfect, I speak in assemblies a lot, take part in fairtrade committee, I was a leader of our Social Enterprise challenge and won an award for contributing to the school community extensively.
I know it’s not enough for Ivies but do you think I would have a chance at some liberal arts colleges like Amherst, Vassar…? Any other suggestions on liberal arts colleges that offer significant financial aid for international students? I want to go to a school that is great academically but also I wanna have a great time, do interesting stuff besides academics.
Do you think it’s realistic or should I concentrate on getting into a school in the UK and try US for postgraduate??
Thanks a lot for your opinions!
