I would add Clemson, Temple, Pitt, Purdue, some of Florida’s public colleges, University of Colorado, VA Tech, Wisconsin, University of AZ, ASU, Indiana, Iowa, Alabama, and possibly West VA. There are many, many international students competing for spots at American STEM programs. The OP can pay the equivalent of out-of-state tuition at most public universities, but might not be able to afford private colleges that won’t meet need for international students. What about McGill and Waterloo, in Canada, as well?
@NASA2014: For him to get accepted they would need to deny admission to litterly thousands of far better qualified applicants and yet still accept him. That simply does not happen in the absense of a major hook, which this applicant does not have.
Sorry, but it simply is never going to happen.
@bodangles : That stragegy will not work if he graduated from a school where the primary language of instruction is English (which apparently is the case with the OP).
Do the universities take into consideration that I come from a small village?
"Do the universities take into consideration that I come from a small village? "
In some ways, yes. For instance, if it in some way limits your participation in extracurricular activities, then admissions committees will look at your extracurriculars with that in mind.
They do take it into account, but your guidance counselor will have to make it clear that what you did is extraordinary for your town or village (number of people an number of schools, class size on your school, a sense of what’s typical at your school… Will all matter). If you’re lower income or /an erhnice minority this will also be xonaidered in your favor .
@MYOS1634 i don’t have high school counselor so where shall I show my achievements?
Can the principal, a class master, a tutor, a homeroom teacher, the person in charge of pastiral care… (Those have different names depending on the school system) do that! You will need a counselor rec and a school profile inaddition to your secondary school report.
@MYOS1634 okay and will the universities consider the fact that I received lesser opportunities?
This has to be stated explicitly in the school profile- and in your recommendation, what you did to overcome those obstacles and limitations.
@MYOS1634 what if I show that I took all of the opportunities that I received from my school and my community?
@MYOS1634 my teachers agreed to write that thing.they say they will write my achievements
Then it won’t be held against you, especially if you “created your own opportunities”. But competition is still very very hard. Since you’ll be applying with subject tests, make sure one is a humanities subject.
And it’ll have to be very clear that you went beyond normal and are exceptional in specific ways
@MYOS1634 I already took 3scien e subject tests and will be taking humanities. Is it okay?
@MYOS1634 will this increase my chances?
It’ll help your chances to have one humanities subject (or more if you can but its not necessary and if you don’t have money don’t worry about it, one is enough).
Have you read “the boy who harnessed the wind”?
@MYOS1634 I read a little of it . why did you ask that?
You should try to compile a list of EC like your olympiad participation and then neatly give out all scores to be accurately assessed,
Winning activities like the IMO would give you a chance at even MIT.
With average EC, you may get in UC like UCSC or Merced.
There are also other schools like virginia tech that are less competitive than MIT but great schools.
Because he’s a good example of a student who had very few opportunities and made the best of them in exceptional ways.
Do you know the highest percentage of an ISC student who got accepted to ivies?
