Chances for an Indian student

I am Indian studying in the Indian CBSE syllabus.

GPA/Percentage:

9th Grade - 9.4
10th Grade - 9.8
11th Grade - 85%(I am going to mention the reason which is that I was concentrating too much on App Development)
12th Grade - Expecting 97%+

SAT 2 - Math 800 Chemistry 800 Physics 800
SAT 1 - 2300 - Math 800 Writing 750 Reading 750

AP Computer Science - 5

ECs

  1. Pretty good with computers and programming. Mobile App developer. Have designed websites and apps for many people. Have degrees in Multimedia softwares from the World Multimedia Organisation. Have participated in several movie making competitions and I am pretty good in audio and video editing.
  2. Music - Keyboard for 9 years, finished grade 8 with distinction. Saxophone for 4 years, lead player in my school's brass band. Have participated in several national programs. I also compose and reproduce music often and I have a channel on YouTube.
  3. Puzzles - Chess player, have participated in several competitions. Rubik's cube participated in a national event and secured a position in top 10 in the country.
  4. Sports - I was in my high school basketball team and have participated in several competitions. I often play squash too. I am also an athlete. I have also learnt Karate for 5 years unto the level of black belt.
  5. Other : Participated in the F! in schools competition and have reached the national level.

Internships:

I have worked in two companies for 3 weeks each.

I am not planning to apply for Financial Aid.
I am an international applicant.
I am planning to major in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.

I am planning to apply to:

  1. Stanford
  2. MIT
  3. UC Berkeley
  4. Purdue
  5. Columbia
  6. Georgia Tech
  7. Caltech
  8. UCLA

I am going to apply in November 2015 after my 12th half-yearly exam.

being an Indian isnt going to help you. It’s a minority but it goes in the same category as Asian lml. With your stats I would say, you can get into Georgia Tech, Caltech, and UCLA

What about the rest of the colleges?

Your grades and SAT scores are excellent. However you have two major issues:

  1. International applying for the most popular major (Comp Sci or EE) at the best schools
  2. ECs don’t really stand out.

If you are applying for CS or EE at those schools you really need to have some “WOW” extracurricular that will catch their attention. What you have presented above is really good, don’t get me wrong, but it is not enough to WOW anyone. Programming a couple of apps and writing a handful of web pages isn’t going to impress anyone in the CS department at any of these schools.

Go over to the Stanford and MIT boards and take a look at the ECs of the admitted students.
