I know Illinois only accepts 9% of the students out-of-state, but i'd love to go there. Let me know what you think my chances of being admitted are!

GPA: 3.53 uw academics

Curriculum: 7 AC courses, 2 AP courses (will take 2 AP courses senior year)

ACT: 29

Location: Michigan

Major: Sport Administration/Management

ECs: Ice Hockey (captain, state finalists), Orchestra (two-time competition winner, president, 1st chair, awards within), Helped found a premier sports website on the web, write for the site currently (won an award with the site), Helped build and maintain Disc Golf course while a part of Frisbee Club, member of National Honors Society, Volunteer at local thrift shop, worked with local newspaper for 5 years (won awards during service). Candidate for class president (didn't win :-( )

I think you have a good shot. Your ACT and GPA is above average at the school, and you have alot of extra-curriculars...write good essays and I would say you are in. Good luck.

Admissions is almost solely based on your class rank at the end of junior year and your ACT score. What's your class rank? Also, the official policy is that in-state and out-of-state admissions are the same. The only difference is that they're familiar with the top high schools in Illinois and are willing to accept these students with slightly lower class ranks.

Illinois actually accepts about 70% of the students who apply from out of state. The 9% figure simply tells you the percentage of those enrolled in relation to all students. In state students will obviously greatly outnumber out of state students enrolled at any state university simply because the number of in state applicants will outnumber the number of out of state applicants by 9 to 1. Your stats look good to give you a good chance for admission to all the colleges except engineering where you would be on the low end of what is usually required. However, you don't provide class rank and it along with test score are the two most important criteria.

I don't know my class rank, which is why it isn't provided. My school hasn't given it to me. If I had a rough estimate, i'd be in the top 10-15%. I also go to (as my school website has on it's cover) "one of the country's premier secondary schools".
