Academics:
I'm in eighth grade and taking linear algebra (the college course).
I've been on my school's MATHCOUNTS team for the last three years and made state each year.
I've gotten straight As so far.
I'm taking Latin 1 and know that I'll take Latin 2 next year.
Extracurricular:
I've been playing soccer for about 7 years now and my current team has won 2 division championships so far.
I'm also in my school's chorus and chamber choir which is an auditioned group.
I think that my essays were pretty good too.

Also, I got 1st in the KSEA (NE chapter) last year and 4th two years ago.
I’ve used the Johns Hopkins CTY for 4 years.

First, are you a boy or a girl? If you’re a boy, the fact that you’ve sung helps you a lot. (Or so I’ve heard) And, you’r taking linear algebra in eighth grade? That’s really impressive. I think you’ll have a lot choices on March 10th. But, then again I’m another applicant so good luck.

Thanks for the reply, ifax108. If you get in, tell me. Maybe we’ll end up in the same school. I am a boy (and Asian if that matters).

Have you talked to the soccer coaches at any of the schools?

Yes, I have talked to all of the soccer coaches.

Well that will definitely help, many of these schools will give you some slack in your grades if you are good at athletics. Any other sports?

Thanks for the response, mustang. I don’t play any other sports. Will that lower my chances?

I know couple of people at my school (I go to PA) that are Varsity in some sport as a freshman, and their grades (from what I’ve heard) are given some slack when considered giving admission.

I would take Mustangs’ posts with a grain of salt, as there is no recruitment process for prep schools…so, yes, soccer would help in the sense that it shows dedication, but not in the sense that they would cut you some slack in terms of grades [which doesn’t seem to be a problem for you :)] On the other hand, being asian DOES MATTER. Math and science oriented asians are a dime a dozen, whereas standout humanities students are much harder to come by. Any more awards? Or extracurriculars?

“as there is no recruitment process for prep schools”
???

yes, there is :S

theres def recruitment at prep schools… in almost every sport

allow me to rephrase…the process isn’t as official as it is at universities, nor do you receive such significant slack in terms of grades [from what I’ve heard]. Ie. a recruit for a “money sport” at an Ivy League school would be allowed to have a significantly lower ai than an untagged applicant.

I have to say you did a very good job! Linear algebra is amazing! You must have been doing Calculus in 6th grade! Good for you and good luck to everyone! Make sure to check out the official master list of acceptances on D-Day! (I ask that you limit posting until it’s time).
