Chances for Barnard, NYU, will chance back!!!

<p>Hello! I'm a currently a junior.</p>

<p>Info:
Female, Caucasian</p>

<p>My GPA for freshman and sophomore year is a 3.5 UW, buttt I am doing better this year, I estimate that my overall average for the year is a 95. My so my GPA would probably come to around a 3.7 UW. </p>

<p>I took two AP's sophomore year (pretty much only AP's offered for soph's)
1 AP but 2 IB's this year. I will also be taking 4 IB's senior year. [[for anyone unfamiliar with IB it's higher than AP, International Baccalorate, not all schools offer it]]</p>

<p>EC's: (I will say 3 years because that is all I've completed, but I will be doing all of these next year so it will technically be for all 4 years in HS)</p>

<p>Mock Trial - 3yrs - this year: Vice President
Acting Class outside of school -4 years
Varsity tennis 3 years - next year I will be Co-Captain
Writing Club -1 year
I've been playing violin for 13 years and took classes for 11 years but I stopped taking lessons two years ago</p>

<p>Over the summer I took a course (comedy sketch writing) at Brown University, as well as an improv class for adults in NYC.</p>

<p>I also ran a book drive in my school all by myself, and will do it again next year.</p>

<p>PSAT: 173, I plan to study a major amount to try to get a 1900 possibly--not great but good.</p>

<p>I want to possibly major in film/writing for film and television/something of that sort</p>

<p>I want to apply to NYU-Tisch, Emerson, and I know Barnard will be a reach but do you think I have any chance at Barnard if I write a stellar essay???</p>

<p>I think you should try really hard and aim for a 2000 SAT. It’ll make you competitive for Barnard as well as almost any other college in America. I don’t think your GPA will be too much of a problem as long as you keep it up these two years, and b/c colleges like an upward trend. If you do well in classes the next two years and get a decent SAT, you’ll most likely be a high match at NYU AND Barnard, but don’t forget to have some great safeties as well. </p>

<p>I agree with collegebound, if you score 650+ in each section and write really good essays you will have great chances at Barnard and NYU. Best of luck.

<p>I think you have a decent shot at these schools, I agree with previous posters that you should aim for a higher SAT, maybe try the ACT?
Overall Barnard would be a high/Medium Match with 2000+ SAT </p>

<p>Barnard: High match at 30+ on the ACT
NYU Tisch: Match at 30+ on the ACT
Emerson: Low match at 1900</p>

<p>Your EC’s regarding performance arts look awesome! Definitely puts you in a good place from a ‘passions’ standpoint if you’re wanting to go into that field. Even if you have a 1900 (although I would agree, aim for 2000) you will have a chance at all these schools. Barnard’s app has like 6 essays (mostly why I didn’t apply there…hahah) so it’ll give you a good chance to show them who you are and compensate for an SAT on the lower end of the Barnard spectrum.
