Thinking of declaring pre-law

As of Right now, my class rank is unkown, but I'm in the top 3% of my class of 650 individuals.
Cumulative Unweighted GPA: 3.75
Without Freshmen Year: 3.933

Unsure of weighted, class rank is weighted though.

Evident upward curve of GPA over the course of my highschool education, low to high. I understand that certain colleges disregard your freshmen year- but does this mean they recalculate your GPA of the last 3 years of highschool? If my comprehension is correct, this would place my GPA unweighted much higher, I'd estimate: 3.933

Extracirriculars:
*Four years of Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate, attending Stanford Debate camp over the summer, qualifying to Nationals of Debate in my junior year Captain of Debate Team
*Work experience over the summer at Best-Buy
*100+ Hours of Volunteering at a local hospital
(Unsure as of now, I'd estimate 50+) Hours of Community Service
*member of National Honors Society
*member of Philosophy Club
*member of Spanish Language Club
*member of Medicial Club
*member of Community Service Club
*Tutor for 4th grade students in various subjects for two years.
*Tutor for 9th,10th,11th grade students for Algebra II, Trig, Algebra I, Geometry, and Calculus for one year
*Varsity Tennis Player for two years(Love to play on a Varsity Team at any of these universities) Possible Candidate for Captain
*Took Abstract Algebra Course over the summer at a university
*Internship at a hospital(not sure if this will help my chances for pre-law, but meh.)

I also don't think it would be in my best interest to apply EA or ED because my senior year could help my GPA further, along with retaking ACT and SAT.

So Here is my question: With my relatively low cumulative unweighted GPA with freshmen year included, do I stand a chance even with my SAT ACT AP getting accepted to Columbia? And if so, about what chance, if not, why not?

Apply ED/EA anyway. Your GPA is fine. It will definitely help to apply early. An extra semester of senior grades is not going to help significantly--colleges will see first semester anyway if you apply early. You have a great chance. And WHAT THE HELL why would you retake the SAT/ACT?!?!?!

Cause I was trying to compensate for my pitiful GPA :P
I thought I could improve my SATII scores- but I'm really anxious to visit Columbia...
So you think I'm a definate candidate of Columbia?

Think again.

I agree - I don't really see any reason to retake the SAT or ACT. Those scores are both very good. I would go ahead and do the ED thing though to help "seal the deal" just in case. You're a strong candidate, but going ED may just be enough to make you one of the elite 10% for sure.

Alright, ED it is then :)... but... why "think again?" :( Am I Missing something?

because like 80% of people enter a school like columbia thinking they're going to go into law or medicine, and you're costing yourself your originality if you just follow the herd. everyone learns eventually, take a chance and learn it early. you don't declare pre-anything at columbia, anyway. take the classes you have to take, take the classes you want to take, and think about law school once you're a senior. nobody in the law school admissions business thinks it necessary for freshmen to think about such things.

-Steve

I see, I'll definately remember that, thanks Steve.
So, my chances at Columbia are good then? I'm really excited if so-
any other comments? :) keep 'em coming lol...

OMG you DEFINITELY need to improve your SAT scores! Otherwise I'd say automatic rejection...
and yeah 3.75 is SO AWFUL!! Just kidding!! If you're in the top 3% i think that's enough. at my school to be top 3% you have to have like a 4.7 W and probably 4.0 UW (ugh)
do you think you can play tennis there?

3% of 650 is about #20 and below, and my weighted is easily over 4, and class rank is weighted, so yeah, I'm top 3%.

Why do you even need to ask?

The only reason to say that you wouldn't get in is that it's basically impossible to predict who will get in at the top tier schools.

yeah, unless you're a development case, no person is ever over 80% to get in. there's too much randomness involved. but based on the people i knew at columbia, you're probably north of 60%.
