Chances for Carnegie Mellon or Cornell?

Hi everyone, so I really like both Carnegie Mellon and Cornell's engineering programs, so could you please look me over and let me know what you think? I'm leaning towards Mechanical Engineering. Thank you!

Recommendations: One from my physics teacher who I had 2 years in a row, and one from my 11th grade english teacher. I'm pretty close with both of them.

Essay: I wrote my Common App essay responding to the prompt about where you feel "perfectly content." I wrote about how I like to ride by bike around town to relax and reflect on life and things, and to take a step back and look at my life from a 3rd person perspective. I just basically wrote on how I reflect about my life through biking.

I thought I'd get accepted to NEU - my guidance counselor was surprised, but she got an email from NEU saying that they intentionally deferred a lot of applicants, so I'm not really sure what's up there.

Just for clarification’s sake, how are you planning on taking AP Physics B & C exams when B exams aren’t going to be given anymore?
You look great overall. I imagine you’ll be considered a strong applicant for both schools, but just being strong isn’t always good enough for them. I’d say it’s a toss-up, 50-50 kind of chance. Good luck!

Thanks! I think I screwed up the physics test names - all I know is that I’m taking the mechanics test as well as the E&M test

No problem! And gotcha; those are both AP C exams. Thanks for explaining

Amazed you got deferred from Northeastern.

Agree with the above post, strange that you didn’t get into NEU outright, your stats should’ve gotten you in but you SHOULD get in RD. That being said, I’m not sure how you have a 3.79 UW GPA and above a 4.7 W GPA (especially when you only list two APs)… In any case, you’re set for Nova, Drexel and Lehigh. The other three (in addition to the schools you were deferred from [outside of NEU]) are reaches.
