Chances for Columbia or Barnard??

<p>Hey! I really want to go to Columbia for Computer Science on a Visions and Graphics track, which is offered through Barnard as well. I'm going to be a junior in high school, so I really need to know what I need to do to kick it into gear for senior year!</p>

<p>Academics:
GPA: 3.89 uw/4.37 w
SAT: 1980 (will be retaking in october! this was from freshman year, so, based on practice tests, I should be scoring around 2200 in the fall)
Honor roll (sophomore year: all A's and one B in APUSH1)</p>

<p>School-related ECs and other:
Winter Track and Field (JV)
Spring Track and Field (JV)
Marching Band (mallet percussion) (freshman, soph, and junior years)
Concert Band (bassoon) (freshman, soph, and junior years)
National level DECA competitor (Apparel and Accessories Marketing) (soph year)
UNICEF member (freshman, soph, and junior years)
Student Council Senator (freshman, soph, and junior years)
Class Secretary (freshman, soph, and junior years)
German Honor Society</p>

<p>Other:
Personal fashion, music, and lifestyle blog with over 50,000 followers (I won't post the link because I prefer to keep this somewhat anonymous)
Her Campus High School Ambassador
Volunteer Sunday School teacher at church (various Sundays during the Sunday school year)
Went to Burma for two weeks volunteering at different deaf schools, orphanages, and monasteries
Interned at NYFW my freshman year with a magazine company called The Daily Front Row
Fluent in HTML5/Python (learned through Codecademy)
Will be competing in the top 70 in the Miss NJ Teen USA pageant in October--this is something I'll only be putting down if I win the title!</p>

<p>My classes for next year:
Band
Pre-Calc BC
Bio H
APUSH 2
German 4
AP Macro
AP Lang and Comp</p>

<p>What I have for senior year so far:
Band
AP Calc BC
AP German
AP Lit
AP Stat</p>

<p>Thank you so much in advance! I really hope I have a shot... this is going to be the only Ivy I apply to. I won't be heartbroken if I don't get in because I can quite literally take the same classes through Barnard (hopefully I can get in there...?), but after spending more time on the campus I'm kind of in love.
xx</p>

<p>please help guys!</p>

<p>Welp, here’s some help:
Get off this website and the chance forums especially. These forums are worth crap, because nearly everyone here is in the same boat as you are. You might have some parents on here, but really, they don’t know anything either because hey, they’re not admissions officers. We can’t tell you whether or not you’ll be accepted, and you shouldn’t be trying to figure that out or do what you “need to do” to be liked by the college. Because if you’re a fit, you’ll be accepted, and if you’re not, you won’t. Simple as that. Sometimes you’re accepted, most of the times you’re not, but you won’t know that until you get that envelope in the mail a couple years from now. So don’t waste your time, log off, find what you really like to do, and pursue that. If you have specific questions (How to improve SAT score? How’s Barnard’s such-and-such program?) feel free to ask, but we literally cannot predict your chances of getting into a college, because it’s a crapshoot. People on here will tell you otherwise, but don’t listen to them. Do what you like with your life, get good grades in rigorous courses, have fun, and keep everything in perspective.
But for the love of all things, stop asking what your chances are. We don’t. know. Anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing just like you. I don’t want to sound rude; I’m doing this for your good. Because either you’re going to get told “yes! you have a good chance!” and you’ll have that hope (which, statistically speaking, will be crushed) or you’ll be told “hrmph! Not good enough! I did such and such and your crap is worthless!” and you will be discouraged and hey, you can’t get into what you don’t apply to.</p>

<p>Columbia is not likely right now, but Barnard isn’t unlikely. I know a young woman with average GPA and test scores (1600) and got into Barnard because of an amazing essay.</p>
