You also might want to consider SAT IIs. Have you taken/are you taking any? They might help in showing your strengths.
If you have time and feel up to it, you could consider retaking the ACTs as well. That might be a little tough, though, you’ve got other things to deal with.

no, i havent considered the sat11 but i think im gonna have too. im just too all over the place right now. so specifically what should i work on? is there anything i can do to increase my chances?

Not really. Two of the biggest weaknesses in your application, your rank and ECs, can’t be fixed in the next few months. You need to substantially raise your SAT Reasoning score, but even then there are no guarantees.

I would consider investing in an SAT prep course. I took a Princeton Review one, and it was EXPENSIVE as hell, and I’m still paying my parents back (this was more than half a year ago), but my scores improved from 690-760s across the board on practice tests to 800s in writing and math and 780 in CR. I’m pretty sure it helped
If you can’t afford it, at least buy a practice tests book and have at it. I’m sure you know all the material, you just need to get used to taking the test and the types of questions they like to ask.

^They most certainly do not. All of your activities are extremely commonplace, you don’t seem to have much leadership aside from class council (which is not impressive), and dedication cannot be inferred from just 200 hours of volunteering.

I agree with Billabong. Some generic ECs, and class council has become a popularity contest in many high schools these days.

If you don’t mind me asking, what’s your ethnicity and gender? Unless you’re a URM with some hook we don’t know about, I think your chances will be slim.

Write great essays and bump up that SAT/ACT as much as possible, good luck!

I’m a black female. My parents are nigerian and egyptian. And yeah SAT is definetly gonna have to change. I’ll try to take on more major specific ED,s and leadership roles.

One thing I would make sure if I were you is that your essay/recs are as good as they can be. Many times essays can be a deciding factor and with your stats and ambitions (hopefully this isn’t too harsh), you need as much of as edge as you can get, as does anyone who is applying to the Ivy league. For the SAT and ACT, I encourage you to focus on either or…not both so you can improve more on one. In my opinion, it is easier to raise the ACT in the Math and English section as it is all repetitive from test to test. However, its up to you and I wish you the best of luck, Galib2011.

Thanks Galib2011. I plan on taking the october SAT and I am confident in the essays i can write. I’m a writer so that is my strong point. I didnt put this on here earlier. but last year i organized a UNICEF event for my community by myself and over 100 volunteers and participant to coordinate. we raised a lot of money an di was thinking about writing my essay about that.
