Chances for CSOM

I applied to the Carlson School of Management back on October 22th and haven’t heard back yet. I’m curious what my chances of getting in are

GPA: 3.3 UW 3.6 W (Junior year: 3.6 UW 3.9 W with A’s in Marketing, Honors Intro to Entrepreneurship, and AP Microeconomics - all Business classes)

ACT: 31
APs: 5 classes (Psychology, Microeconomics, Lang., Literature and Environmental Science)
Extracurriculars:
4 Years of Football (JV captain and Varsity State Champion)
4 Years of Intramural Basketball
3 Years of Curling Club (2 year starter)
Link Crew for High School
President of Jewish Youth Group and previous Vice President and Head of Communications
Active Member of BBYO
Retail Attendant for the Milwaukee Bucks

Honors:
Most Improved GPA Freshman Year
Numerous time High Honor Roll and Honor Roll

Let me know what you think!

LOL my son has almost the exact same stats. Submitted in August, CSOM as a reach and CEHD Business and Marketing Education as 2nd. From what it looks like so far the strongest candidates have heard from CSOM already.

@dadix11 the GPA is low but the ACT is fine. w/o knowing class rank I’d say it’s a reach, but the EC’s are good. Last year someone with a similar GPA (but ACT south of 30) from WI was waitlisted. You have a better chance due to your higher ACT and your grades seem to be going in the right direction.

BTW, CSOM requires that your high school course work include bio, chem and physics so hopefully you have those on your transcript. Also, Calculus preferred.

CEHD & CLA are good backups in case CSOM doesn’t work out. Also, I think CFANS has a special joint program with CSOM pertaining specifically to agriculture. If you get into CLA you can always major in Econ and minor in business - two great combinations. There is also the possibility of transferring over to CSOM as well, although not sure how that works.

Sometimes it seems there is no rhyme or reason for the decision timing. Strong applications are occasionally delayed in the notification, whereas more average applications can be accepted quickly if they have a particular attribute or hook. The process is stats-focused (and coursework focused) but looks at more than just those factors.

Good luck to you - and to your son, @Chiefster72!

I have a similar GPA but my SAT is 2220 and I’m still waiting, I don’t think they’ve admitted a lot of CSOM students yet.

@jh1868 you would for sure get into CLA. I think you said on another thread that it’s Carlson or bust; however, in the event that you don’t get in (and that excellent SAT will definitely help your chances, btw), they may place you in CLA anyway. In that case, you can consider Econ with a minor in business or you can try to transfer over, college gpa permitting, once you matriculate.

But your SAT is really good - about a 34, correct? They may make you wait for a bit while they figure out if they have room in Carlson! A high GPA is very important but they do like those very really high test scores as well

Crossing my fingers for you!

Any news?
