Chances for Duke, Emory, BC

Columbia, Duke, Emory, Barnard, Oxford (Emory), BC, Wake Forest

I'm looking at a GPA of about a 3.8

Rank: top 30/398

Public school is very rigorous and is nationally ranked.

10 AP Exams: Calc AB (5), Calc BC (5), US GoPo (5), US History (5), Macroeconomics (5), Statistics (5), Physics B (5), Human Geo (4), Lang (4), Lit (4)

6 IB Exams: Calc SL (7), Psych SL (7), History HL (7), English HL (6), Chemistry HL (6), Spanish SL (6)

Hopefully an SAT scare of 2200 at least.

EC: Tennis (9-12 as a hobby, varsity only 11-12), president of Red Cross club (11-12), HOSA (11-12), Mu Alpha Theta (11-12), Class Secretary (9), SGA 2nd VP (11), Class President (12)

Volunteered by tutoring at local elementary school and at local hospital (9-12)... around 400 hours total.

I volunteered in a village in Africa this past summer. It was really a life changing experience and will probably be writing my main essay about this.

Bumppppppp

Forget about Columbia & Duke.

@CuseAmbassador Ok… thanks… I guess?

@cyrato Thank you for your more defined answer!

Bump…

Anyone want to give me any input?

Don’t listen to CuseAmbassador, s/he was probably boring and was trying to make fun with something that actually isn’t funny at all.

I think you have a great shot at Columbia and Duke, you seem well rounded, you took a lot of AP classes and your ECs are good even though a little lacking - but I think that showing passion in them is more important than having a lot of them, and you have quite leadership. Your GPA is sufficient for those schools. I’m a little worried about your rank, are you in the 10% of your class? If so, you’ll be fine. Try to get that SAT score and you’ll have a shot. I would say they’re a medium reach.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1370677-please-chance-me-ivies-i-promise-ill-chance-anyone-back.html

Right, I was boring. Yet I beat the odds of getting into Duke.

Wow. Wy to pump yourself up cuseambassador. I think if you had elaborated on your comment it would have been better received. However, you simply gave a blunt and somewhat untrue response.

@OP,you look like a fair applicant. I am not admissions officer but I can tell you that applying to the above schools is definitely worth it. With a 2200, I think BC and Emory and Wake are matches (with Wake as a somewhat lower match). The others are definitely possible. Good luck.

Might look at Holy Cross and Notre Dame similar to Boston College

No chance at Columbia and Duke. Competitive unhooked applicants are almost always in at least the top 5%, more to the top 2-3%. With a top ~8% class rank, you simply stand no chance. Fortunately, you do have good shots at the other schools on your list, which are great schools.

And you wont get any leeway from the ‘rigor’ of your school unless it typically sends about 30% or more of the graduating class to ivies and peer schools.

Thank you everyone for your responses!

Is there someone from an admissions council on here? :)
