well, i just received my first ACT scores and so i thought id see if i have a chance to apply for EA this fall (currently a junior)

GPA 6.0 (4.0 uw)

ACT-33 (converts to a 1470 SAT)

rank: tied for 1/527

school: large public high school. we have some students who go to competitive colleges on a full ride and others who simply go to a community college.

classes: trying to take the hardest classes available to me. recent levi failures are making this more difficult (gotta love public school) 2 ap classes this year and probably at least 3 more next year.

EC's-fairly well rounded with several leadership positions (student senate representative, key club president, Prom co-chair). most likely 300+ hours of community service by the time i graduate done through tutoring and being a middle school and vacation bible school leader at my church. no varsity sports (well at least not yet) but jv in softball and track and possibly xc.

i have a few ideas for who will write my teacher recs but that should come out fairly well. i plan on going into architecture. while i know i won't be applying directly to the architecture school, i will also be submitting an art portfolio with my application.

and last but not least..might have minority status. my dad was born in macedonia (just north of greece, eastern european country). while i know its not hispanic, asian, or african, if ND is looking to increase its diversity, why not throw a macedonian into the mix?

thanks for any input! anyone think i should take the ACT a second time? I did a lot of preparing for this time around so im not sure how much i'd be able to improve my score.

Nah, better write it after being awake for 33 hours straight. Any less and they'll doubt your sincerity.

I'd say retake the ACT if you were trying to get invited to the Honors Program (I think the cutoff is 34), but since you plan on being an archie, that doesn't apply. I think you're fine.

aw yes, ive heard of those late nights for the archi students. im efficient though so hopefully i wont have to stay up for 33 hours. thanks for the input everyone!

ill find a way to get it all done...so since i wont be interested in the honors program, is there a need for me to take the act again if i want to apply EA? to be honest, i dont see myself improving much but if its necessary i could

Well, it may not seem to make a big difference, but when you get down to it, a 34 is better than a 33, and will improve your chances, even by a little bit.

I'd say retake it. I'm a high school senior now, and my stats were about the same as yours when I applied, just some music ecs and community service instead of sports. I got a 32 my first time (after studying some) in February last year and then retook it in April to improve my writing score. I only worked on writing, but my writing score didn't go up. However, I ended up with a 35. I'm still not quite sure how that worked out... But anyways, I think you should take it again. If you apply EA there is an all-expenses-paid four-day Reilly Weekend in March that the top 90 or so EA admitted students are invited to. That is definitely worth it! (Well, atleast I'm hoping it will be!) And there are some neat scholarship things that you can get if you score really well (not that you didn't already score really well)... But anyways, I recommend retaking it just to see what happens.
