Chances for Early Action :)

Hey everyone! So I officially decided that UNC is my first choice school, and now that I've decided that I'm incredibly paranoid that I'm not going to get in :( I'm also applying to UVA, USC (South Carolina), and Virginia Tech.

In state female from VERY rural area with horrible academic programs unfortunately.
I've taken every AP offered except 2, and I've also taken one online AP that isn't offered at my school. I've received As in most of my classes, a few Bs in Honors classes and 2 of my AP classes. I am currently taking 3 APs and one honors and receiving straight As! (Take that senioritis :P)

3 on AP English Language and Composition Test
4 on AP Biology

1870 on SAT...I know this is really low, I'm not a good test taker :(
640 Writing 630 CR 570 Math

Took SAT 2 Subject Tests in November, will get results Nov 22

- Walking dogs at Animal Shelter 12
- Annual Kickball Tournament for Elementary Schools in my county 10-12
- Angels Among Us 9-11

I also participated in a scholarship program in my county for rising senior girls in which the contestants are judged for their grades, fitness, a talent, a personal interview, and self-expression. I won preliminary awards for fitness, talent (jazz dance), interview, and self-expression. I "won" the program and was named Roxboro's Distinguished Young Woman for 2012. I will represent my county as such and be involved within several activities within the community. I will also be a contestant in the state Distinguished Young Woman program where I will be given the opportunity to win more scholarship money!

I'm also a very good writer, so I feel good about my essays :)

What do you think??

Have any idea what your class rank is?

You have a better shot at VTech or USC. Are you interested in any other regional schools or IS schools? What about NCState/Ashville/Wilmington/App/Charlotte/Greensboro?

I’m in the top 10% out of about 400. I’m not interested in any other in-state schools, and my next choice is USC

USC, UVa, and VT are expensive schools OOS. Does your family have the money saved up?

The problem is it’s very competitive at UNC because of the common app this year. I think you need an instate backup in case the other schools prove to be too expensive (too many loans). Is there a reason you’re not interested in other in-state schools? I could think of a couple reasons but I don’t want to assume. (PM me if you want). You need a lot of options for such an important decision.

What are you interested in majoring in? English/Creative writing/History?

I’m aware they’re very expensive, but I also have a lot of scholarship money. I don’t think money is an issue, my family has always insured me that I will get to go wherever I want to go to school.

I’m not sure yet, but I either want to major in Biology or Communications. I know that’s a very big difference haha

i think you have a really good shot at UNC. I also think having a lot of back-up choices is a good idea. Apply to at least one more in state school, perhaps NC State, and hope for the best! Goodluck!

Thank you! I am applying to NC State also :)

I think you have a pretty good shot at UNC, especially if your area is underrepresented. The only weakness I see is your SAT scores, but for in-state they probably aren’t that much lower than the 50th percentile (might even be in the range). Your class rank and course rigor are definitely pluses!

Best of luck! :)

You’ll get into NC State, probably get into UNC. Get your math and CR SAT up and you should be good. Write an awesome essay or you might be on the bubble.
