Chances for early admission and some scholarship

Hi, I just finished my junior year and am very apprehensive about my choices of colleges. BC is definitely one of the top choices.

To tell u more about me, I am an immigrant from India and attend a all girls catholic school. My gpa is a 4.0 out of 4.0 and I have a 97% overall average. I am ranked the first in my class as well.
My SATs were not to great: 1490/2100. My SATIIs were ok. Bio 700, US Hitory 660, and Chem 680. I took 3 APs this year, BIO, US HISTORY, and English Language and Comp. Next year Ill be taking AP Calc, AP Lit, AP French, Anatomy and Physiology honors, Physics honors, etc, etc. Basically I have been taking a rigorous work load, however, unlike other schools, Theology is a mandatory course for all 4 years, therefore I have been unable to take a better course load.

I also took 2 college courses, Anatomy and Physiology and Statistics, and will be taking another this summer, Psychology. I took a course at Brown last year and will be taking a course at Tufts in medicine this year. I will also be attending the NYLF for medicine.

I have good ecs

I also have an internship at a research center and shadow a surgeon.I have seen 20+ surgeries. I hope to be conducting my own research this year.

I also received honorable mention in the Dupont national Science Competition.

I loved the atmosphere BC had to offer especially since it is a very safe and close knit similar to my school. I would appreciate all of your opinions in admittance because I will be applying EA to BC.

i think you're guaranteed to get in, just based on stats.

BC doesn't have scholarships
They do only need based fin aid.

undecidedly2010 - Wrong.

http://www.bc.edu/centers/psp/aboutpsp/faq/#finalists

"Presidential Scholars receive a merit scholarship that covers full tuition at BC, regardless of financial need. If the merit award does not meet their financial aid requirements, Scholars receive additional grant and aid resources sufficient to meet full need. The cost of summer programs is fully covered by a separate award."

I know about that award- do me a favor and look up just how many people recieve it.

If you read a little further down it lists it as being 15 a year. And that is the only scholarship. Not even kids in the honors program receieve any money.

My friend, who is going to be in BC honors next year had higher SAT scores, interned for a congressman, was 11th/430 in our class. over a 98 avg., had amazing ECs, was on the competitive dance team, and took 9 Aps by the time she graduated and was not asked to be in the program.

Given that info and the info that out of the nearly 9 thousand kids BC accepts only 15 are asked to be the program (that would be about 1.6 percent of all accepted students) I usually don't mention it unless I see someone who's stats I tihnk will get them into the program.

I know about the selectivity for that award. But your statement that BC offers no merit money is not true. It is REALLY, REALLY hard to get it but it's there.

1490/2100????

or 1490/1600?

I tihnk she was saying that she had a 1490 out of 1600 and a 2100 out of 2400

Oh goodness, you'll get into BC, but I doubt that you'll get the Presidential Scholar. A student from my school was admitted to:
Harvard, Darthmouth, BC, Brown, and Tufts. And yet, with his stats, he didn't even get invited to attend the preliminary round of the Presidential Scholars Program, in which 30 are invited.

The Presidential Scholars program is extremely, extremely selective. I wouldn't count on it (I'm not saying your stats aren't up to snuff -- I have no clue -- but it's a very small, select group that is included in such a program).

You seem to have a good chance of being admitted -- BC definitely values community service experience. I think trying to guess your "chances" is such a crapshoot -- really, we all have no clue what the rest of the applicant class is going to look like, and it's all relative. But if you ARE one of the more qualified candidates, you may be offered admission into the Honors Program, which is definitely worth it, and definitely a rewarding experience.

youll def get in. if you want to know where you'll be going early on then apply ED/EA but it is a little harder to get in early than RD so keep that in mind. I got inRD with 1450/2180, lower grades/rank and fewer EC's. Being indian is def a plus since they have such a small group of them applying and BC is looking to get more diverse ( ithink) .

I haven't found this information anywhere, does anyone know what the average GPA at BC is?

you should get in the honors program, although you would guarantee it with a 2200 on the SAT

thank you all of you for your responses. What do you think I should work on in order to better my chances for admissions into BC's honor program? For example, what are the truly looking for in an applicantThank you in advanced and I hope to hear all of your responses

"if you want to know where you'll be going early on then apply ED/EA but it is a little harder to get in early than RD so keep that in mind"

Is it really? I thought it was supposed to be easier (not in reference to BC, but with colleges as a whole) to get in by using ED or EA. Is this true, then, for only some colleges?

BC states on their website that EA is MORE selective, and only 20% of deferred EA applicants are admitted regular decision.
