I’m really excited about the prospect of Emory and want to get some opinions, it’s an awesome school and by far my number 1.
I also applied to Fordham, Colgate, UC Berkeley and a state school as a safety, but I honestly don’t want to go anywhere other than Emory. I have a relatively low GPA (3.994 W), but have literally everything else to get in. 33 composite ACT, 36 Science, 33 reading, 33 english, 31 math, 10 writing. I wrote good essays, and I have have amazing EC’s, I work 20+ hours a week at a fine dining restaurant (one of the most acclaimed/expensive restaurants in my city), I’m an IT technician for an orthodox Jewish temple, (I’m also Jewish, which may or may not help), varsity captain for the tennis team, had a summer internship at UC Berkeley doing Bio-medical research and may be published in a paper on the results, am a tutor for a dyslexic middle schooler, have leadership roles in clubs and activities, and have amazing rec letters. My councilor has been the head of the guidance department at my school for 30 years (I go to a very diverse public highschool in a suburb where there are 7 councilors), and my councilor personally sends 10+ kids to Ivies every year, plus more to schools like Vanderbilt, Berkeley, Emory, Duke and so forth, and she said that I had 3 amazing rec letters, and one in particular was one of best rec letters she has read in her entire career.
I also do the full IB diploma programme. Also, my councilor is going to call the admissions office in a few weeks just to express how much she thinks I should get in (schools like that know and respect her opinion because of her long track record). There are a few other things, but overall I want to think that I am very qualified to get in… except for my GPA. It’s below a 4.0 weighted. I’ve had extenuating circumstances and also learning disabilities which my councilor talked about in the rec letter, but at the end of the day, the main thing they look at is GPA and mine doesn’t even begin to compete, some people on here have a 3.8 or 3.9 unweighted. Can you guys chance me, realistically. The suspense is killing me, but I need to know, do I even have a chance with that GPA? ED 2! Die hard Emory fan.
