Chances for ED Cornell?

I am thinking of applying early decision to Cornell. I really want to get into an ivy league college. Do you think that I would have greater success in receiving admission to an ivy league college other than Cornell?

Bio: I am a mixed Middle Eastern (Pakistani/Irani/Turkish) girl who lives in Florida. I attend a very competitive preparatory school.

Academic information: I have taken the SAT twice. My first score was 2050: 730 in reading, 660 in math, and 660 in writing. I have not yet taken SAT II's though I plan on taking Math II, Biology, and Literature. My second score was 2120: 700 in reading, 740 in math, and 680 in writing. I have taken 4 AP classes thus far: AP Bio, AP US, AP English, and AP Spanish. In Bio, Spanish, and US I received 4's and in English Language I received a 5. My transcript has 9 A+'s, 4 A's, 5 A-'s, and 2 B+'s (from a time when I was very ill). We do not have class ranks in our school, but I think that I would be in the top 15%. I have been notified as a high scorer for the National Merit (score of 204). I am taking AP Psychology and AP English Literature this year.

EC activities: I was the historian for the school newspaper in ninth grade. In tenth grade, I was the competition coordinator for the school newspaper. In eleventh grade, I became a member of the school's science research program and won third place in the county science fair. For one year, I have been a member of the school's Pre-Med club. I play piano and violin (an independent activity, for which I have not entered any contests. However I have the occasional recital).

Community service: I volunteer at the school library. In addition, I am a student instructor for my former pre-calculus teacher. I am submitting an application to volunteer at a nearby hospital and another application to the public library.

**Thank you for your advice.

It’s pretty pathetic that you don’t even care about what school you go to as long as it is an ivy league school. When you write your application they can tell that. Your academics might be able to barely scrape by but without a significant hook chances are maybe 25%.

Wow chill out ^

Retake the SAT score higher and your chance will go up drastically.

I do care about what school to attend (Cornell), but I would be satisfied with any other ivy league school.

I think 25% is extremely generous, those stats just aren’t sufficient for any ivy league, sorry.

Improving your SAT score would help, but, make sure to write a stellar essay, explaining why you believe Cornell is the right school for you.

Because you’re entering such a competitive applicant pool, with tons of students with loads of ECs and uber high SAT scores, standing out is imperative. Write a sincere essay that shows you as a person and you’ll have a fighting chance. :]

Well, I did end up getting into Cornell early decision. And, I ended up with a 2360 on my final SAT.
